Northern state schools come to IU

After traveling to Missouri on Wednesday only to be rained out, the IU softball team returns home this weekend for four Big Ten games that could have an impact on postseason play. Wednesday, the Hoosiers traveled all the way to Missouri only to have the game called because of weather. "Being on a bus for six hours, we definitely wanted to play," said freshman Rachel Carlson.

Hoosiers set to play 1st place Illinois

Coming off its most lopsided loss of the season, the IU baseball team will look to rebound this weekend against the Fighting Illini of Illinois. The Hoosiers have not played a home game since April 6 when they defeated Indiana State 6-4. With their most recent loss, IU dropped its overall record to 19-16 on the year and its Big Ten record remains 3-9.

2nd place at stake against Michigan

The Hoosiers are three teams, two victories, one weekend and a little bit of help away from a second-place finish in the conference. This weekend will be pivotal for No. 40 IU as the Hoosiers meet at the IU Varsity Tennis Courts to take on No. 41 Michigan at 4 p.m. Friday and Michigan State at 10 a.m. Sunday.

IU travels to Big Tens to seek 8th tourney title

Standing over the final putt of his first college tournament, Jeff Overton needed to make a 10-foot putt just to break 80. It was not quite the start he had imagined, but Overton stepped up and hit the putt to score 79 for the round. It wasn't a great round, but at that moment, IU coach Mike Mayer knew he had landed a special recruit.

Ewing Jr. headed to Georgetown

HOUSTON - Pat Ewing Jr. is headed for his father's alma mater, according to a broadcast report. NBA great Patrick Ewing told Houston television station KRIV on Wednesday that his son will transfer from Indiana to Georgetown.

Mexico beats IU soccer 2-1

The Mexican U-17 National Team stopped IU's attempt at a perfect spring slate. Some of the Mexican players have experience playing professionally in Mexico, and they used that domestic and international experience by applying pressure and physical challenges early to IU as Mexico defeated the Hoosiers 2-1 in front of 3,472 fans Tuesday at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

Dean invited to NCAA conference

Like a lot of students, IU wrestler Max Dean will head to Florida this summer. Thanks to the NCAA, his trip to Disney World will be free. Dean, a redshirt freshman, was named as the Hoosiers' representative to the 2005 NCAA Leadership Conference, being held May 29 through June 2 in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Dean was one of 325 student athletes chosen from more than 1,100 applications.

Ball State piles up runs, rolls over Hoosiers 17-4

It has been more than two weeks since the IU baseball team has seen home. It seems that much time away from Sembower Field has taken a toll on the Hoosiers. IU was smothered by Ball State 17-4 Tuesday at Diamond Field. The 19-16 Hoosiers dropped their fourth game in their last five and come home with a 3-9 conference record heading into Big Ten play this weekend.

Hoosiers make trip to Missouri for non-conference doubleheader

After losing four games to ranked opponents this weekend, the IU women's softball team will travel to Columbia, Mo. to face the University of Missouri Tigers in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon. The Hoosiers faced two of the nation's top teams this weekend in No. 16 Northwestern and No. 1 Michigan, but the team was unable to come away with a win.

IU club sport athletes prepare for Midwest playoffs

On a cold, windy night April 11 at Evan Williams Field on 10th Street, the Hoosiers used crisp, direct passing and tough man-to-man defense to bring down Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 24-0. Their dominating performance was reminiscent of two weekends ago on a road trip in Illinois as they defeated Northwestern 16-0, Knox College (Illinois) 14-2 and shut out a group of Chicago University graduate students.

Festive audience adds Mexican flavor to Hoosier defeat

The crowd of 3,472 at Bill Armstrong Stadium created a festive atmosphere as many fans came to support both the Hoosier and Mexican squads. The usual Hoosier backers were out in full force. However, the pep band and Hoosier student section were joined by enthusiastic Mexican fans cheering on the visiting Auglias.

Although it's meant to be one race between 33 teams, the end of Saturday's 55th running of the Little 500 turned into two separate races -- one for first and second places and another for third and fourth. Dodds House and Phi Gamma Delta sprinted down the stretch for first, while Briscoe and Delta Upsilon battled for third.
