Kurt Busch is staying out of trouble these days, no longer making waves as a NASCAR bad boy. After Busch won for the second time in three races, prevailing in a rare Tuesday NASCAR event after two days of rain postponements at Michigan International Speedway, he gave most of the credit for the change of attitude to team owner Roger Penske.

The whir of chains and hum of wheels filled the air Saturday afternoon on Kirkwood Avenue as a crowd gathered and several blocks were closed to downtown traffic for the Bloomington Cycling Grand Prix. The sixth annual bicycle race, consisting of a women’s race and men’s races of different skill levels, was organized by TrueSport.com and co-sponsored by local cycling club Team Tortuga.

Soccer team looks forward to fall play

As August draws to a close, students will begin returning to Bloomington for the start of classes. Along with classes comes the fall athletics season, and one team expecting big things is the men’s soccer team. Recently ranked No. 8 in the country in the College Soccer News’ preseason poll, the Hoosiers hope to live up to such hype and redeem themselves after a third-round loss to Santa Clara on penalty kicks in last season’s NCAA Tournament.

IU hopes to make most of 5 yards

Five yards has the potential to go a long way for the Hoosiers this year. College football’s newest rule has pushed back kickoffs to the 30-yard line, five yards further than last year. This will result in fewer kickoffs being caught as touchbacks and more returns.
