Bayer, Vavra named IU Athletes of the Year

Senior swimmer Allysa Vavra and redshirt junior distance runner Andy Bayer were named the 2012 Indiana Athletes of the Year earlier today. Both Hoosier athletes have a chance to make the U.S. Olympic team during the USA Olympic Trials this week.

Sixteen current, former IU swimmers vying for spot on U.S. Olympic Team

Recent IU graduate Margaux Farrell has already punched her ticket to this summer’s Olympics, but she might not be the last Hoosier swimmer that makes it to London. Farrell will swim for the French team, but starting Monday, 16 current and former IU swimmers will attempt to make the United States team at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb.

All 24 IU athletic teams exceed APR standard

All 24 IU athletic teams exceeded the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate standard of 900 for 2010-2011, while seven IU programs received a perfect APR score of 1,000 for the 2010-2011 academic year.

IU senior diver Amy Cozad is within striking distance of making the U.S. Olympic team heading into Sunday’s women’s platform final at the USA Diving Olympic Trials, held at the Weyerhauser Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.

Led by 2009 graduate Christina Loukas, who competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, multiple Hoosiers have booked spots in the finals of their events at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Diving Trials, putting them one step closer to competing in London.

New rules on men's college basketball recruiting well-received around Indiana

When clocks across the country turned to midnight and Thursday, June 14, became Friday, June 15, the phones of many male high school basketball players rang incessantly. The NCAA changed the way men’s college basketball coaches recruit when it lifted limits on phone contact from coaches to the student-athletes they are courting.

Former Hoosier diver Loukas zeroing in on second Olmpics appearance

The road to London just got a little shorter for former IU diver Christina Loukas. The former All-American and 2009 NCAA Champion scored 317.46 points in the women’s three-meter springboard semifinals Wednesday and sits in second place heading into Saturday’s finals at the USA Diving Olympic Trials, held at the Weyerhauser Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.

On a foggy Bloomington night in June, two beacons shine brightly through the mist. They are the towers that form the North End Zone complex at Memorial Stadium, and they serve as just that: a memorial to a man who has been absent for five years. A man who never saw the towers built.

Hoosier family helps injured strength coach Morris with expensive recovery

The IU Athletic Department creed, “The Spirit of Indiana: 24 Sports, One Team,” holds true as Hoosier athletes rally around Head Strength and Conditioning Coach Tom Morris, who is recovering from a C6 spinal cord injury he sustained during a mountain bike accident May 17. Morris helps Hoosier student-athletes get bigger, faster and stronger for a living. Some of those he has helped in the past are now stepping up to help him.
