Hoosiers hope to regain crown

Last year, the Michigan State Spartans won the Indiana Invitational, breaking a streak of three straight tournament victories for IU in the event. This year, the Hoosiers hope to show last year's loss was an aberration.

Golfers enter key stretch

The men's golf team will go to Huntington, W.Va., to play in the Marshall Invitational this Friday and Saturday. The tournament will be held at the Guyan Golf and Country Club and will feature 20 teams. The meet will be the first time IU has played outside of the state of Florida since the spring season began in March.

Team looks for 2nd solid Big Ten showing

IU looks to rebound from its 5-4 loss at Indiana State when it returns home to face Iowa in a four-game set. The Hoosiers (20-5) enter the battle tied for first place in the Big Ten after going 3-1 against Illinois. Iowa (9-11) is 1-3 in the Big Ten after its series against Michigan.

IU looks to snap five-game skid

Coming off a heartbreaking 5-4 loss to Louisville Wednesday, the IU softball team returns to action this weekend, starting today at 4 p.m. when the Hoosiers play host to No. 13 Michigan. IU will look to end its five-game losing streak with four games this weekend.

Arbiters hear Team Major Taylor case

About 30 spectators spilled into the hallway in Franklin Hall yesterday at an arbitration hearing between IUSF and men's Little 500 team, Team Major Taylor. The team was disqualified in late March when it was determined by IUSF that freshman Joshua Weir had competed as a Category I or II rider and was ineligible to take part in the 2002 race.

One Last Celebration

It came near the end of the pep rally yesterday evening. "One more year, one more year." As the IU men's basketball team was presented with season trophies, the crowd of about 5,000 started in on Jared Jeffries, urging the sophomore forward to stay at IU instead of opting to enter the NBA Draft in June.

Baseball falls 5-4

After a successful weekend taking three out of four games against Big Ten opponent Illinois, the IU baseball team headed to Indiana State to take on the Sycamores. The team was unable to carry the momentum of the weekend into Wednesday night's game and fell 5-4 in 10 innings.

Pole vaulter has Olympic aspirations

Four years ago was the beginning of men's track and field coach Marshall Goss' career at IU. It also happened to be the first year for senior pole-vaulter Dino Efthimiou. Coach Goss and Efthimiou are a large part of the reason why the Hoosiers have returned to the Big Ten's elite.

Colts coach to speak at clinic

This Saturday at 10 a.m. in Assembly Hall, Indianapolis Colts head coach, Tony Dungy, will be speaking at the IU Football Coaches Clinic. All IU students who wish to see Dungy speak may attend for free with a student ID. Dungy will be one of the speakers for the April 5-6 clinics, to which coaches throughout the Midwest are invited.

Bonds homers twice in opener

LOS ANGELES -- After getting off to a great beginning, Barry Bonds said he's more concerned about the ending. He was speaking of his team, not himself. Coming off one of the greatest offensive seasons in baseball history but still without a World Series appearance, Bonds homered twice and drove in five runs Tuesday to lead the San Francisco Giants to a season-opening 9-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Nicklaus withdraws from tournament

Jack Nicklaus, the most dominant player at Augusta National with six green jackets won over 23 years, withdrew Tuesday from the Masters because of lingering back problems. It will be only the second time since 1959 that Nicklaus has missed the Masters. He also skipped in 1999 when he was recovering from hip replacement surgery.
