No. 16 IU just misses NCAA Tourney bid

IU coach Amy Robertson already knew her team's fate. As the majority of her Hoosiers gathered together to watch the NCAA Tournament selection show Tuesday on CSTV, Robertson knew her squad had just missed the postseason cut. After all, she served on the committee that selected the teams.

Gordon signs IU letter of intent

For months, IU coach Kelvin Sampson has dealt with questions regarding recruit Eric Gordon. For months, Sampson has given the same response: "I can't comment about that." With Gordon signing a national letter of intent with IU Wednesday morning, Sampson is finally able to talk about his prized recruit. "Gordon is a dynamic player. Offensively there's so many different ways he can score the basketball," the first-year Hoosier coach said at a press conference Wednesday evening. "This kid scores really high on the 'wow' scale. He's good. He's an impact guard."

Not just Gordon; Sampson shores up three more for 2007 b-ball class

Eric Gordon wasn't the only prized signing Kelvin Sampson had the pleasure of officially revealing Wednesday. The first-year Hoosier coach added Eli Holman, a 6-foot-9 center from Richmond, Calif., Brandon McGee, a 6-foot-7 forward from Chicago's Crane High School and 6-foot-5 shooting guard Jamarcus Ellis from Chipola College in Chipola, Fla. to his first IU recruiting class. Sampson was able to make the signings despite recruiting restrictions the NCAA imposed on him in May. The restrictions prevented the coach from calling recruits or making visits off campus, thanks to a ruling that Sampson deliberately broke NCAA rules regulating recruiting phone calls during his tenure at Oklahoma.

New club team sweeps campus, literally

In only its second year of existence, the IU Curling Club already notices an increased interest in the unconventional sport. The club is the brainchild of junior Ryan Brown. Growing up in a curling family, Brown experienced the game at a young age and eventually shared his love of the sport with his long-time friend and fraternity brother, junior David Krasny, now the vice president of the club. They began organizing the club two years ago, with Krasny taking care of the business aspect.

UPDATE: Gordon signs with IU

North Central High School senior Eric Gordon signed a letter of intent this morning to play for Kelvin Sampson and the Hoosiers next season. Gordon, who is the No. 2 recruit in the nation according to Rivals.com, held a private ceremony at his high school to make the announcement.

One goal. It sounds rather cliche, but no phrase better summarizes the IU men's soccer team at this point in the season. The team has already reclaimed the Big Ten regular season championship and the conference tournament title, two feathers that never made it in their cap last year. They brought home the hardware, despite losing six of 11 starters from a year ago and being the lowest-scoring team in the 34-year history of the program. If that doesn't typify how dominant IU soccer has been over the years, I don't know what does.

Hoosiers dealt 1st loss of season

The IU men's hockey team split games last weekend, tallying its first loss of the season. The Hoosiers lost their first game Friday but won the second game Saturday against Lindenwood University, currently ranked No. 7 in Division I. The split put the Hoosiers at 5-1-2 on the season.

IU receives wild card bid to soccer nationals in Arizona

IU men's club soccer is trying to make sure Mike Freitag's squad is not the only championship soccer team on the Bloomington campus this season. The club team earned regional runners up honors after a 2-0 loss to Illinois in the Oct. 29 Midwest Alliance Soccer Conference final. The loss, IU's first of the year, brought the club's record to 11-1-3.

Michigan State upsets No. 12 Hoosiers

The No. 7-seed Michigan State Spartans defeated the No. 2-seed Hoosiers in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday, 3-1. This is the second time in two weeks the Spartans (8-11, 2-5 Big Ten) have upset the No. 12 Hoosiers (14-5, 4-2 Big Ten). The first loss came Oct. 21 in East Lansing, Mich., in a 1-0 contest.
