IU back in action after break

The IU men's tennis team ends a month-long layoff today when it takes part in the Hoosier Invitational and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Midwest Regional Championship, hosted by Minnesota. The Hoosiers host the Hoosier Invitational this weekend and send three players to the Midwest Regional Championship starting today and ending Oct. 24.

Apparently, I root for pond scum. At least that's what St. Louis told me. They had it written on their shirts and scribbled in black ink on their posters. After driving four hours Saturday to Missouri, I came to one conclusion: St. Louis Cardinals fans piss me off.

COVINA, Calif. -- Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle was remembered as "a loving husband and an awesome father" Tuesday at a memorial attended by family, friends and teammates of the avid yet inexperienced pilot who was killed during an aerial tour of New York City.

Moms always say to play by the rules, but rules change. The new hockey rule change which enforces stricter obstruction penalties was a huge factor in the IU men's hockey games this Friday and Saturday.

Universlam contest hits Bloomington

Kadour Ziani leaped over a small child huddled on the ground and hung in the air for longer than seemed possible. Then, at the peak of his jump, he scissor-kicked a basketball that was lodged in the corner of the rim. The feat was a move that Ziani calls the "Kick the Rim." Even though it wasn't a dunk, the crowd that had gathered at Sherwood Oaks Christian Church for Universlam was in awe of Ziani's incredible display of athleticism and flexibility.

IU nabs top recruit from Illini

For months, just about everyone except Eric Gordon Jr. thought they knew what Eric Gordon Jr. was going to do. Friday night, making an appearance at Hoosier Hysteria, Gordon Jr. and his father, Eric Gordon Sr., made it clear he finally knew where Gordon Jr. -- the No. 2-ranked player in the class of 2007, according to Rivals.com -- is going to play his collegiate basketball. He is coming to IU.

Hoosiers upset No. 15 Iowa

Late in the fourth quarter of IU's 31-28 victory against No. 15 Iowa Saturday -- with the Hawkeyes driving and threatening to regain the lead -- senior safety Will Meyers made a terrible mistake.

Senior Day overshadowed by loss to Wolverines

Sunday's game began and ended with tears for IU. Players, coaches and family members appeared misty-eyed before the Hoosiers' highly anticipated showdown versus the No. 20 Michigan Wolverines. The No. 11 Hoosiers held a Senior Day ceremony on the Mellencamp Pavilion turf minutes before the game to honor their senior class.

Streak busted: IU loses to Wildcats

Needing only one win to etch its name into the program's history books, the IU women's soccer team fell short. The No 16. Hoosiers (9-3-4, 5-1-1 Big Ten) lost 1-0 to Northwestern Sunday, ending their unbeaten streak at 13 games, just one short of the school record of 14 games which spanned the 1993 and 1994 seasons. The loss was the first for the Hoosiers since falling to Creighton University 2-1 Aug. 27.

IU's dynamic duo

James Hardy and Kellen Lewis are still getting to know each other. With Lewis having started only three games heading into Saturday, the sophomore receiver and the freshman quarterback were just trying to get on the same page.
