IU coach Kelvin Sampson is likely to forgo filling out an NCAA tournament bracket this season. After all, with his Hoosiers set to receive a bid to the tourney, picking his own regional could get a bit awkward.

The IU softball team said they were in search of consistency before making the trip to Clearwater, Fla., to compete in the Adidas Invitational. But that wasn’t what the Hoosiers got in their two games Thursday against No. 19 Georgia Tech and Massachusetts.

Man sues Pacers mascot, alleging on-court tackle

INDIANAPOLIS – A man is suing the Indiana Pacers and the performer who portrays its feline mascot, alleging that the 6-foot-tall performer tackled him during a free-throw-shooting contest, leaving him with permanent injuries.

IU heads south for spring break tourney

The IU men’s tennis team (8-4) was in for a treat Wednesday. As they stepped onto the Varsity Courts, the sun was shining with the temperatures in the mid-40s. Junior Mike McCarthy said it was the team’s second day outside, and while the weather was pleasant in Bloomington, they have four spring break matches to play in the warm weather of Clemson, S.C.

Hoosiers go west for 2 matches against top-ranked foes

With spring break just around the corner, several IU students have plans of traveling to places far warmer than Bloomington, getting into their swimsuits and relaxing at the beach. The women’s water polo team is no different, as they head to California to take on two of the nation’s toughest teams in No. 9 San Jose State on Saturday and No. 7 California at Davis on Sunday.

Committee has tough decisions at top of bracket, too

INDIANAPOLIS – Gary Walters understands the difficulty in filling those final spots for the NCAA field. This year, however, his selection committee faces a new twist – picking the top seeds. With Florida’s late-season struggles, Wisconsin’s injuries and Kansas’ power ranking, Walters acknowledged Wednesday that putting together the 65-team field this weekend will be far from clear-cut.

The IU women’s swimming and diving team has bested every challenge placed before it this year, completing an undefeated dual-meet season and claiming its first Big Ten championship since 2003.

Less than a week after having its games against Ohio and Southern Illinois canceled because of the threat of extreme cold weather in Carbondale, Ill., the IU softball team will get to compete in the sun when they travel to Clearwater, Fla., for the Adidas Invitational today.

CHICAGO – After spending a day indoors quizzing Chicago officials about their bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics, a U.S. Olympic Committee inspection team began exploring the city Wednesday to see where some of the events would be held.

Hoosiers blow out Butler in home opener

In its first home game of the season, the IU baseball team gave its fans plenty to cheer about on a brisk March afternoon. Playing without freshman left fielder Kipp Schutz, who sustained a broken collarbone during Tuesday’s 5-3 loss to Indiana State, the Hoosiers (4-4) evened their record back to .500 with a 6-0 win against in-state rival Butler (3-5), Wednesday.

Sheriff’s report: Kings’ Artest slapped victim

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento Kings forward Ron Artest slapped a woman’s face and grabbed her repeatedly, causing visible injuries, according to a sheriff’s report made public Tuesday. Artest was arrested Monday after a woman inside his home in a Sacramento suburb called 911 and said she had been assaulted.

Basketball season ends with title games

March Madness is upon us, and although the IU men’s and women’s basketball teams won’t be finishing their seasons at Assembly Hall, several other IU students saw their amateur careers come to an end there this past Sunday and Monday evenings.

IU to face in-state rival Sycamores

After playing its first six games in the relatively warm weather of Memphis, Tenn., and Dothan, Ala., the IU baseball team heads to Indiana State today to compete in the slightly cooler temperature of Terre Haute. Fresh off a 4-2 win Sunday against Northern Iowa, the Hoosiers enter today’s contest against the Sycamores – a team that started the season with a 4-1 record and averages almost eight runs per game.
