Come Saturday, most seniors will be walking the stage and going out to expensive dinners with their parents – but not all of them. A few will instead be running the baseline and swinging for the fences. Friday commences IU baseball’s series against Iowa in Iowa City.

Hoosiers finish 4th in conference

After a disappointing three-day tournament, the men’s golf team finished in sixth at the Big Ten tournament this weekend. Heading into the fourth and final round Sunday, the team was tied for fourth but did not perform well enough to win.

3 Hoosiers qualify for regional competition

The IU women’s track-and-field squad continued their push toward the Big Ten championships and the NCAA Mideast Regional this weekend at the 98th annual Drake Relays. The women added three more athletes to their pool of regional competitors.

IU places 5th in Big Ten championships

The IU women’s golf team wrapped up its season at the Big Ten championship in East Lansing, Mich. The Hoosiers came away with a fifth-place finish that saw all of IU’s players finish the tournament in the top 50. “We definitely played with a lot of heart today,” IU coach Clint Wallman said in a statement. “The team did a good job grinding for good scores.”

IU falls in 2nd round of Big Tens

In its last meeting with Michigan, the IU men’s tennis team was unable to muster a single set and lost 7-0. On Friday, just six days later, the No. 20 Wolverines eliminated the No. 67 Hoosiers from the Big Ten championships.

Hoosiers lose in Big Ten tourney semis

Six days after the IU women’s tennis team defeated Michigan for one of its biggest wins of the season, the Wolverines got their revenge with a 4-2 victory to eliminate the Hoosiers from the Big Ten tournament.

Squad finishes 7th in conference championships

The IU rowing team left Lake Wingra in Madison, Wisc., with a bronze medal and seventh as a team overall at the 2007 Big Ten rowing championships Saturday. “I think in terms of our personal advancement as a team, IU did well,” said freshman Michelle Marchese. “Each boat came off the water pleased that they had great rows, but I think most of the girls were just disappointed with the outcome of the races.”

NCAA approves text messaging ban to begin in August

College coaches will have to recruit the old-fashioned way next year. The NCAA’s board of directors approved a ban Thursday to eliminate all text messages from coaches to recruits beginning in August, then left open the possibility of revisiting that legislation as early as 2008.
