Hoosiers head west to Olympic Trials

For track athletes Kyle Jenkins and Abbie Stechschulte their seasons have not been without disappointment, but both athletes have another chance at redemption when they compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore., which take place June 27-July 6.

The IDS’ Matt Dollinger was able to catch up with Eric Gordon, who is expected to be selected in Wednesday’s NBA Draft Lottery, at the NBA Draft propsect’s media day in New York City. Gordon spoke about how he is preparing for the NBA, his thoughts on IU men’s basketball personnel changes and what he would do with an NBA salary.

NCAA levies additional allegation against men’s basketball program

The NCAA has levied a sixth allegation against the men’s basketball program, saying the University failed to monitor the program’s compliance to NCAA rules. The University released a letter Thursday sent by the NCAA to University council at the Ice Miller law firm informing that the sixth allegation has been added to the allegations against former coach Kelvin Sampson and the basketball program.

When 1983 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Archie Dees was drafted second by the Cincinnati Royals in 1958, the pipeline between Hoosier basketball and the NBA was officially opened.

Local Speedway makes small-town racing a big deal

IU removes turf from Memorial Stadium

It’s almost all gone. With exception to the red IU logo at mid-field, every inch of AstroPlay turf on which the Cream and Crimson were last seen hoisting the Old Oaken Bucket has been removed from the field at Memorial Stadium in the wake of flood damage two weeks ago.

Euro Cup 2008 draws audience of IU international students

Soccer fans all over campus are keeping a close eye on the 2008 UEFA European Football Championship, or Euro 2008. IU students and faculty, especially those with European ties, congregate around television sets in the Indiana Memorial Union and Leo R. Dowling International Center each afternoon to watch the games.

Looking back on Hep's legacy

A year ago today the IU football program lost its leader, the coaching ranks lost a respected colleague and those who were fortunate to have known former coach Terry Hoeppner lost a friend. Hoeppner died of complications from a brain tumor only months before the start of the 2007-08 season, forcing the IU players and coaching staff to come together and deal with the loss in the midst of preparations for the new year. “We went into last season with a real sense of purpose,” IU coach Bill Lynch said. “We had a goal in mind and we were united in that goal. And that was to get to a bowl game.”

IU Tears up the turf

As of 1:00 this afternoon, more than half of the AstroPlay turf at Memorial Stadium had been removed.

Ellie Benson, fifth from left, and her fellow Hoosiers compete at a race on Lake Lemon. Benson was named a second team All-American last week, making her the second Hoosier ever to earn the honors.

IU rower earns All-American honors

Indiana freshman rower Ellie Benson was named to the 2008 Division I Pocock All-American Second Team on June 6, becoming the second All-American in IU rowing history, according to a press release.
