IU women will play in WNIT tournament

IU's winning season wasn't enough for an at-large bid to the NCAA women's tournament, but on Monday night the Hoosiers received an automatic bid to the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

IU women learn their fate tonight

The IU women's basketball team will learn their post-season fate at 6 p.m. today when the NCAA selection show airs on ESPN. The Hoosiers will gather in a room at Coaches Bar and Grill for a NCAA Selection Show Party to see if they will receive an at-large bid to the big dance.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Boilermakers, the preseason favorites in the Big Ten, fell to a No. 3 seed in the conference tournament by losing three of their final four regular season games. They found their groove at Conseco Fieldhouse as Purdue rallied to beat Ohio State 65-61 on Sunday for its first Big Ten tournament title.

Bloomington South rolls to regional championship

Bloomington High School South is a step closer to a state championship. The Class 4A No. 1 Panthers (24-0) won a regional championship on Saturday night in Seymour, Ind. after rolling over Terre Haute South (21-5) 66-39.

NEW YORK — Syracuse and Connecticut played a game for the ages Thursday night and into early Friday. When it was over, everybody in Madison Square Garden was exhausted and, except for the losing team, exhilarated.

The Hoosiers will have to execute on both sides of the ball if they plan on snapping the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles’ 17-game winning streak. The Eagles (25-4) will take on the Hoosiers in the opening game 4 p.m. Friday.


Freshman outfielder Alex Dickerson swings against Morehead State Tuesday afternoon at the Sembower Field. Dickerson and the Hoosiers hit nine home runs, with 22 hits in an 18-3 win.

Smith expects better defense in spring trip

The Hoosiers will play their first game Saturday against  Bowling Green at Chain O’Lakes Stadium in Winter Haven, Fla. They will then compete in a string of contests, which will lead IU into conference play and its toughest portion of the season.

IU must wait to see if the NCAA selection committee will accept the team for a position in the tournament. While the Hoosiers’ resume has some strong points, the question remains: Will it be enough to make the big dance?

It really has been a remarkable season – not good or bad, just remarkable. Last year was likely the single most unpredictable year in IU basketball history – but this one gave it a run.
