TERRE HAUTE -- Sentencing of a man described by authorities as one of west-central Indiana\'s largest makers of methamphetamine has been delayed because two educational videos he is making have not been completed. A plea agreement reached in March calls for Rodney Flora, 35, to plead guilty to six felony charges and receive a 10-year prison sentence.

GOP to present budget proposal

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana Senate Republicans plan to present a tax-and-budget proposal on Thursday that would give Democratic Gov. Frank O'Bannon some new money to help shore up the budget deficit.

April salsa sales to fight child abuse

Throughout the month of April, the Tortilla Flat restaurant, 501 N. Walnut St., will be sponsoring "Salsa for CASA," a program in which portions of proceeds from the sale of Tortilla Flat's fresh salsa will be donated to the local Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program. This is to honor Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month.

MTV show stars speak

Puck and Julie -- two names that live on in the memories of MTV. In this case those memories are in the form of weekend rerun marathons where people can relive the antics of a crazy bike messenger as well as the first of a few booted roommates and a young girl coming to terms with her religion. Now students can get a live look at the two castmates as they come to campus tonight to speak to students about their experiences and what's going on in their lives now. The lecture will give students a chance to ask questions to the two cast members and find out what happens when people stop being polite and start getting real.

Summer meetings collide

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender support services is planning a conference at IU, the Sexual Minority Youth in the Heartland Conference, for July 19-21. It will educate teachers, counselors and principals on ways to handle sexual minority youths in their communities and schools.

Auditorium boasts variety

The IU Auditorium, which has consistently brought well-known acts to campus, has announced its 2002-2003 lineup. With Broadway hits such as "CATS" and high-energy shows such as "Bring In Da' Noise, Bring In Da' Funk," the IU Auditorium hopes to provide entertainment for everyone. Among the shows to come to IU in the fall, patrons will have the chance to groove to popular Bee Gees hits in "Saturday Night Fever" and revisit their childhood dreams with "Cinderella."

IU left with $84,339 hotel bill

When the basketball court had cleared, and the Final Four was all over, IU was left with an $84,339 hotel bill. Jeff Fanter, director of media relations for the athletics department, said fans of each school in the Final Four were given hotel rooms to fill.

Pope speaks out against sexual abuse: a sin and a crime

VATICAN CITY -- Pope John Paul II told American church leaders Tuesday that there was no place in the priesthood "for those who would harm the young," saying sex abuse by priests in the United States was both a sin and a crime. The cardinal of Los Angeles said the pontiff had taken a strong step in favor of "zero-tolerance" for abusive priests. But he and other Americans at the meeting said there was no discussion of the possible resignation of Boston's Cardinal Bernard Law, accused of mishandling sex abuse cases.
