New IUSA student government takes power today

The changing of the guard has occurred. At midnight Tuesday, executive members of the Crimson ticket stood ready on the third floor of the Student Activities Tower of the Indiana Memorial Union, ready to relieve the Kirkwood executives of their year-long service to the student body.

Heroics save Hoosiers

The baseball team rallied from an 8-1 deficit Tuesday night to escape from Dayton, Ohio with a non-conference victory over Wright State. The win avenges IU's March 26 loss to the Raiders that denied coach Bob Morgan his 1,000th career victory at home.

Mayor seeks temporary billboard ban

INDIANAPOLIS -- City-County Council members are considering a proposal from Mayor Bart Peterson to place a six-month ban on new billboards while tighter permanent rules are developed. Peterson has suggested several initiatives, including a committee to study sign ordinances, aggressive enforcement of current laws and a new staff position to determine how many billboards fill the city and their locations.

Artistic creations transcend barriers

Ding dong, the witch is dead. The Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, and his Baath political party have been deposed from power in Iraq. The last Baath stronghold in Hussein's hometown of Tikrit is under assault by coalition forces, and all the oil fires in Southern Iraq have been extinguished.

Chirac, Bush speak by phone for first time in over two months

PARIS -- French President Jacques Chirac, seeking to repair ties frayed by the Iraq war, spoke with President Bush for the first time in more than two months Tuesday and appeared to temper earlier demands that the United Nations be at the center of Iraq's reconstruction.

Spring Fever

Class attendance goes down as the temperature goes up. It's a fact of life for many IU professors, and Monday's beautiful weather had the anticipated effect. The eighty-degree weather and cloudless sky kept many students out of the classroom. "Today's not an español kind of day," said freshman Robert Fekkes. "I don't care how many extra points they would give me."
