Nothing's sacred for Mo Rocca

·

Everything was fair game Wednesday night in Alumni Hall and the result, by all accounts, was hilarious. Knight lawyer hopeful for settlement

·

The attorney for former men's basketball coach Bob Knight said he is optimistic a new president at IU will lead to a settlement in the coach's nearly three-year-old lawsuit against the University. "I am hoping we will be able to settle," said Denver-based attorney Russell Yates. "Especially with Myles Brand gone, I feel we will be able to work things out." Knight is currently in legal battles with IU after he claimed he lost more than $2 million in media and shoe contracts, camps and endorsements following his firing after he violated IU's zero-tolerance policy.

Caught in the April coach shuffle

·

Every year March Madness fades away and gives way to April Madness. March Madness is about which team is the best on the court. April Madness is about teams trying to get deep into the next year's March Madness.

A View From The Outside

·

As the semester approaches its end, I look back in retrospect at my first year at IU. The first thought that crosses my mind regards the idea that one can actually put life "on hold" while pursuing some specific goals or plans -- going to grad school, traveling abroad or working on a temporary job to save some money.

Why I'm great

·

Both Voltaire and Kris Kristofferson decried the "best of all possible worlds," claiming that it could never exist. They're pessimists, and I never believed the president woke up, rubbed his feet together and thought about how he could destroy some people's lives. The best of all possible worlds does exist, and it lies somewhere between blissful ignorance and inspired critical thought.

Math, music make me merry

·

I have this general impression that people think I'm weird, strange or just plain out there. All the journalism majors think I'm nuts for being a mathematics major, and the math majors can't figure out what I'm doing in the journalism school. I spend all my time between Ernie Pyle Hall and Swain East and West. My life, for the past year, has been consumed by words and numbers. What amazes me is that more people don't readily see the correlation between the two.

Around The World

Big savings with a smile

Album promises mix of folk, goth and techno

·

Xiu Xiu takes on the American pastime of going over the top, being so immediately commercial and recognizable that the emotions expressed are undeniable. It's new album plays in this aesthetic, but with a grain of salt. Though the songs rush up from quiet, folky strumming beginnings to the unadulterated crescendos of techno beats and gizmo flailings, they all include a deconstructive element of what Lester Bangs once called "horrible noise."

Hey, at least they're not Dogstar

·

Boomkat, comprised of brother-sister duo Kellin and Taryn Manning, has made a debut album that's equal parts tricky trip-hop and overproduced pop pap. Boomkatalog One is entertaining when left to its own devices, but also grating with overly shimmery pop sensibilities that'd make Pink blush.

Creative Concoctions

·

David Wilkerson tosses a can of pineapple juice behind his back and catches it above his shoulder with his other hand. He pours it into a plastic cup, adds half a shot of coconut rum and melon liqueur, and splashes it with grenadine.

Barely worth 50 cents

·

After viewing 50 Cent's "The New Breed," one can come to the conclusion that rappers are just as egotistical, sexual and violent as they've always been. While the DVD does offer two of 50's hottest videos, "In Da Club" and "Wanksta," the rest of the DVD is just an open forum for 50 and his crew, the G-Unit, to say whatever they want.
