No place like home for IU

The drive to the Big Ten Indoor Championships begins this weekend at Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse as the Hoosiers host the two-day Indiana Invitational, beginning Friday and concluding Saturday. The meet serves as a simulation of the Big Ten Indoor meet, particularly by adding qualifying rounds and preliminary heats to several events, thereby spreading the competition over two days.

Game ruins seats

Hey fellas, what's cooler than being cool? IU's shooting in the second half! As we all know by now, 15 percent is good when you are saving money on your car insurance. When it is your field goal percentage in the second half of the game, it is quite the opposite. Illinois and IU combined to put together the most abysmal basketball performance I have seen since high school, if not before then. The Illini won, despite tying their season-low for points scored, the other game being a 19-point loss to Providence.

Judge rules Clarett eligible NEW YORK -- Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett was ruled eligible for the NFL draft Thursday by a federal judge who concluded the league's rule violates antitrust laws. U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin ordered the NFL to let Clarett enter April's draft, a decision that could clear the path for others. The league will appeal.

IU eyes Golden Gopher battle

The Hoosier wrestling squad looks to shrug off a close loss to No. 2 Illinois Saturday by hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers this weekend in Big Ten conference action. After losing a couple of close matches to the Fighting Illini that decided the outcome, IU, which is 17-5 on the year, and 1-2 in league play, will try to bounce back this Saturday with a strong performance.

Transforming the wedding dress

Two weeks ago, I had my first experience with making a wedding dress. Normally, I shy away from events like weddings and birthdays because I don't like them. Plus, whenever I look at a wedding dress, I cringe at the satin tulle madness some poor designer had to work with. Wedding dresses usually aren't my style.

Program aids Spanish speakers with taxes

What if you had to do your income taxes in a foreign language? Some Spanish speakers in Bloomington struggle with this problem. But with the help of the Bilingual Tax Assistant service at the Monroe Public Library, more than 200 people are receiving tax support.

Financing through football

Last week, Athletic Director Terry Clapacs addressed concerns that a $2 million structural deficit continues to leave the athletic department in the red. Clapacs cited the struggling football program as a reason for lacking revenue. Overcoming the deficit is a complex endeavor that will not easily be solved. Short-term solutions may lead to temporary relief, but real progress will require a change that can lead to an increase over time.

Festival to reap 'sweet' rewards
