Tiger wins 5th straight tourney

Protesters want Pluto as planet

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Size doesn't matter. That was the message as friends and colleagues of the late Clyde Tombaugh, the astronomer who discovered Pluto, gathered on the New Mexico State University campus to protest the International Astronomical Union's recent decision to strip Pluto of its status as a planet.

S is for success

What is the most important behavior for college student success? The word starts with an "S." You might guess studying, and you would be partially correct. However, there is something as important that must occur before studying, reading and review and that word also starts with an "S" -- SLEEP. How much sleep do students need? Most sleep experts agree that between seven and nine hours is optimal or the natural amount of sleep it takes to wake feeling refreshed and staying alert throughout the day. Many students say that they never experience this. How important is sleep to student life?

But while school is logically the best place for athletics, art and music, a new government study shows that it does, in fact, take a whole village to raise a child.

Goodbye, Andre

Andre Agassi played his final professional match last weekend at the U.S. Open. During the long standing ovation he received and his brief, eloquent farewell speech, I couldn't stop the tears from flowing. It was sad to see such a remarkable tennis icon step off the court for the final time. But more than anything, I was moved by witnessing this last public chapter in Andre's amazing maturation from arrogant, aimless youth to selfless, philanthropic hero.

Not our kind of blast

After a Nevada newspaper recently reported that the Department of Defense was planning to conduct the largest nonatomic blast in U.S. history in our backyard, the residents of Bloomington and surrounding areas were understandably alarmed. Fortunately, the DoD has announced it won't run the operation here -- but that doesn't mean it's time for complacency. Mitchell, Ind., the rumored sight of the planned blast, is a small town 45 minutes away from Bloomington, where the government has held tests in the past. The area is strikingly similar in topography to Bloomington, with rolling hills, limestone deposits and an extensive cave system.

IU senior missing since Thursday night

IU senior Daniel Eliot, has been missing since Thursday night, according to police. No friends or family members have spoken to or seen him, and he is not answering his phone, said his father, Ronald Eliot. Friends and family became alarmed when he did not show up Friday to his job as a student teacher at Carmel High School.
