IUSA leaders defend fee distributions

Controversy surrounding a $5,000 IU Student Association grant to the campus group, Students Against Terrorism, for its Nov. 9 free T-shirt initiative, has led some students to question how the student government distributes student fees. However, IUSA leaders supported their decision and the process of distributing grant money to campus groups.

IU wraps up road games this weekend at Illinois, Northwestern

The IU volleyball team is set to play its last road series of the season against Illinois and Northwestern in hopes of grabbing two victories in a season during which wins have eluded the team. The Hoosiers will challenge Illinois at 8 p.m. today in Champaign, Ill., and Northwestern at 8 p.m. Saturday in Evanston, Ill.

IU to compete at MSU

After a stellar performance at the Michigan State Open last Sunday -- in which 11 team members placed, including a first-place finish from junior Marc Bennett (184 pounds) -- IU heads into its second meet of the season in Columbia, Mo. at the Missouri Open Sunday.

Hoosiers host IU Open Invitational this weekend

The IU men's swimming and diving team will host a strong group of competitors in the 11th annual IU Open Invitational this weekend at Councilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. The Hoosiers will play host to Louisville for swimming and diving; Cincinnati for swimming; and Stanford, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Florida International, Purdue and Miami University of Ohio for diving.

IU looks to remain perfect on season

The No. 14 Hoosiers are off to a red hot start at 4-0. They are fresh off a meet in which they dominated No. 11 Texas, winning eight of the 13 events. IU will look to carry its momentum into this weekend when the women's swimming and diving team hosts the 11th annual IU Open Invitational at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.

IU set for tilt with University of Dayton Sunday

Following the IU women's basketball team's 85-51 win against Valparaiso University Wednesday, a question was posed to IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack about taking momentum from the win into the Hoosiers' 6 p.m. game Sunday against the University of Dayton. But Legette-Jack just wanted to enjoy the win against Valpo, saying her team wouldn't start preparing for the Flyers until Friday.

Jed Foundation and mtvU launch national campaign to debunk mental health stigmas

It's hard to fight statistics that say suicide is the No. 2 killer of college students. But in an effort to raise awareness and combat the stigmas of stress, depression and suicide, mtvU and the Jed Foundation have partnered up to launch a program called "Half of Us" to reduce student suicide rates, fight mental health misconceptions on college campuses and connect students and their friends to the help they need. The program's name, "Half of Us," comes from research indicating that nearly half of all college students have said they have felt so depressed at some point they could not function.

Despite rain, all ages turn out for Bread Fest

Rain did not keep people away from the Community Justice and Mediation Center's second annual Bread Fest at the Monroe County History Center Wednesday night. After all, it snowed last year, Community Justice & Mediation Center board member Wain Martin said.

IU celebrates International Education week

This week, exploring the traditions and cultures of faraway lands like Morocco and Costa Rica has been made possible without expensive airfare, heavy luggage or even leaving Bloomington. International Education Week, hosted by the IU Office of International Services, began last Friday and continues through Saturday. It celebrates the benefits of international education and cultural exchange between Americans and the global community.

Memorial service to honor former IU Art Museum director

To commemorate the life of Thomas T. Solley, the former director of the IU Art Museum, there will be a memorial service Friday at 4 p.m. in the IU Art Museum's Thomas T. Solley Atrium. The event is an open memorial service for Solley, who died at his home in Switzerland on April 8 of this year.

Former CIA European chief : Politics hurts agency

The increased politicization of the CIA is hindering the effectiveness of the agency, as evident by the misinformation that led to the Iraq war, said Tyler Drumheller, former chief of the CIA European Division, who spoke on campus Thursday. Speaking to more than 100 listeners in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs Atrium Building, he discussed the ongoing process of politicians becoming more involved in agencies such as the CIA and the troubles that follow as a result.

Trio hoping 'True Story' will be success

When describing his band's method of writing new music, junior Zach "Teddy" Jones said they just "noodle" with it. Jones, a saxophonist, is part of the trio True Story, along with guitarist and vocalist Owen Stevenson, a junior, and drummer Eric Mannweiler, a sophomore.
