Dirty laundry

Chlamydia, scabies, dyslexia, cholera -- you name it, it's growing in my hamper. As a result of laundry procrastination, my closet has become infested with mounds of dirty, diseased clothes. For two months, the garments have accumulated faster than Bette Midler's back hair.

Several campus groups have successfully forced the cancellation of the shirt-raising "Girls Gone Wild" event that was scheduled to take place Friday night at Jake's Nightclub. More than 125 members of the Bloomington community, including students, faculty members, administrators and campus groups, signed a petition sent to Jake's owner Dave Kubiak calling for the event to be cancelled, according to an e-mail obtained by the Indiana Daily Student.

Hoosiers hope to get back on track against Ohio State

Police: Abducted children still alive

Hoosiers support cigarette tax hike

INDIANAPOLIS -- Sixty-two percent of Indiana registered voters support increasing the state's cigarette tax by $1 per pack if the money was used to fund health programs and smoking cessation and prevention initiatives, according to a poll released Monday. The statewide telephone survey of 500 people conducted Jan. 10 through Jan. 11 showed that 36 percent opposed a $1 per pack increase.

Citizens' Academy aims for civic involvement

A member of the 2007 IU basketball recruiting class received a minor wound from a bullet in his upper back Saturday outside a hotel in California, according to a report by the Contra Costa Times.

ELKHART, Ind. - A mother and her four children were found safe Tuesday night at a motel, three days after police said they were abducted by the woman's former boyfriend. The man, Jerry D. White, 30, was arrested, Detective Sgt. Bill Wargo said.

Student dresses for summer all year

It's midwinter in Bloomington, but fifth-year student Ryan Worden is wearing jean shorts and aviators today. He wore them yesterday, and he'll wear them tomorrow, too. He's been doing it every day for seven years, whether it's 100 degrees outside or there's a blizzard. He'll abstain from wearing jean shorts at church or working at a job that requires pants, but those are his only two exceptions. It all started as a bet when Worden was 16 from a football teammate when he moved to North Carolina.

Shooting struggles, rowdy atmosphere lead to IU road loss

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Assembly Hall got the best of the IU men's basketball team yet again. For the sixth straight time, the No. 23 Hoosiers lost on the Illinois Fighting Illini's home court, suffering a 51-43 defeat Tuesday night that snapped IU's five-game win streak. The loss dropped the Hoosiers to 14-5 overall and 4-2 in the Big Ten. IU coach Kelvin Sampson said after the game that the Hoosiers' problem Tuesday night was nothing that could be found on a stat sheet.

More speak out against outsourcing

Some IU employees, distraught over the uncertain future of their jobs, have begun organizing a grass-roots effort to combat a pending decision on University outsourcing. Emerging as an active voice over the last few weeks, the Communications Workers of America Local 4730 have organized a petition calling on the trustees to immediately end talks of all present and future outsourcing plans.
