Annual ‘Vagina Monologues’ takes stage this weekend in honor of V-Day

IU’s V-Day campaign will culminate Thursday through Saturday with three performances of playwright Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues.” IU students will present the monologues 7 p.m. Feb. 22-24 at the Whittenberger Auditorium in the Indiana Memorial Union. Tickets are $10 or $8 with a student ID.

O.A.R. to perform for Little 500

This year’s Union Board performer for Little 500 week will be rock band O.A.R., said Union Board concert director Adam Soiref. The pre-sale for the concert begins today at 10 a.m., according to the band’s Web site, www.ofarevolution.com. Tickets will officially go on sale March 1.

Colts RB Rhodes arrested for drunk driving

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Colts running back Dominic Rhodes faces a drunken driving charge after state troopers arrested him Tuesday, police said. Rhodes, 28, was pulled over about 3 a.m. driving a GMC truck 81 mph in a 55-mph zone on Interstate 65 on Indianapolis’ far northwest side, Indiana State Police spokesman 1st Sgt. Dave Bursten said.

Hoosiers tie for top spot in weekend tournament

The men’s golf team started its spring season off with a win this weekend in Guadalajara, Mexico at the Club de Golf Santa Anita Classic two-day tournament. The men tied Houston after three rounds, shooting a combined total of 896 (305-287-304). “It was a little disappointing,” coach Mike Mayer said of the tie. “I thought we could’ve played a little better.”

Michaelangelo’s private room discovered in Vatican

VATICAN CITY – A 450-year-old receipt has provided proof that Michelangelo kept a private room in St. Peter’s Basilica while working as the pope’s chief architect, Vatican experts said. While going through the basilica archives for an exhibit on the 500th anniversary of the church last year, researchers came across an entry for a key to a chest “in the room in St. Peter’s where Master Michelangelo retires.”

XM Satellite Radio and Sirius Satellite Radio have agreed to merge. The deal, announced Monday, would consolidate the only two companies in the emerging business of subscription-only satellite radio, but it is sure to face tough scrutiny from federal regulators. The two companies said in a statement that Mel Karmazin, the CEO of Sirius, would become chief executive of the new company. Gary Parsons, the chairman of XM, would remain in that role.

Green and Gore-y

It all stared with the beard. I never used to be a fan of Al Gore. To tell the truth, during the fiasco of the 2000 presidential election – that unfortunate bit of American history that introduced us to the “hanging chad” and the proverbial “lockbox” – Gore completely rubbed me the wrong way. The man whom I now idolize as an ecological savior then seemed to me a pompous, arrogant crybaby with the personality of a hermit crab.
