24 Hoosiers vie for US Olympic spots
Omaha, Neb., isn’t necessarily a popular summertime destination, but that won’t stop several IU swimmers from making the trip there. From June 29 through July 6, 24 Hoosiers will be competing in the 2008 Olympic Swim Trials with hopes of making a trip to Beijing this summer.
Unmatched, unbridled enthusiasm
andering around campus three years ago this July, I stumbled upon several posters proclaiming that this hat-wearing, finger-pointing man “wanted me.” He seemed nice enough – and being a child of the Southeastern Conference I breathe and bleed college football – so I accepted. I can’t remember
Player remembers coach Hep
A year ago, the Indiana football family lost a great person in Terry Hoeppner. He’s the man who began to take our team from being the doormat of the Big Ten to making last year’s bowl appearance.
More than a mixtape
Since he’s delivered numerous quality leaks and mixtapes since his last true album, Lil Wayne can be forgiven for the small missteps on Tha Carter III. For the most part, the album is superb, but not quite, “greatest of all time” good.
Nerd sightings
With the exception of a few tracks (“Everyone Nose,” most notably) Seeing Sounds is a success. Fans expecting club-bangers will be left wanting more. However, listeners needing a soundtrack for an afternoon summer barbecue in the park will rejoice.
Bored professor meets lively illegal immigrants
The pace of the film is slow at times, but any alteration would only cheapen its message. While it may take some time for this message to sink in, this is a movie that speaks to anyone willing to listen.
When plants attack
Unfortunately, in “The Happening,” Shyamalan hasn’t redeemed himself, and we’re left to wonder if he’s simply the most overrated one-trick pony in Hollywood.
Won't make you jump out of your seat
Even through its semi-success from the box office, The unintended effect of “Jumper” was to jump and confuse the audience. The film and the extras can serve up a good dose of entertainment, but it’s best if it’s only a one night special and not a movie to add to the collection on the shelf.
Bonnie Prince Billy rides again
Thematically, the album exudes a pervasive appreciation of life. American life. A life rooted both lyrically and musically in a biblical understanding of existence.
Baked goods
Most of the album’s jams are perfect for a party, as you just can’t help bumping to them. And if you like catchy hip-hop but are tired of redundant riffs and choruses, The Cool Kids are right up your alley.
Down with Disturbed
Disturbed has been a major metal force since their 2000 debut The Sickness. Their sound has changed, but their popularity has remained widespread. Their latest album, Indestructible shows the band continuing down their melodic metal path. The two best songs on the album are “Inside The Fire” and “The Night.”
Louisville's Finest
My Morning Jacket’s latest effort, Evil Urges, is the sound of a band becoming comfortable with fame and praise, and at the same time not letting it get to their collective heads.
Hulk smash!
You’re probably thinking, “They’re making another Hulk movie? Didn’t they just make one?” Yes, they did, but just try not to think about it too much and go see “The Incredible Hulk.”
