Column: Scouting the Wildcats

·

I have a better chance of landing a date with a Third Street sorority girl than Northwestern does of winning this game. The ninth-place Wildcats continue their descent into the Big Ten’s basement and another likely absence at the NCAA Tournament as they roll into Bloomington.

The IU women’s golf team opened its 2011–12 season with a victory at the IU Fall Kickoff but fell short throughout the rest of the fall. The squad’s only other top-five finish of the fall was at the IU Fall Invitational at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.

Ballet

Ballerina-itis: The pressure to be thin

·

It is no secret that a long, lean figure is preferred in ballet, but the vulnerability to eating disorders and the health risks associated with ballet is something most dancers would prefer to sweep under the rug.

So this year, in an effort to combat the pressure behind this lovey-dovey, draining day, Rachael’s Café held an “Anti-Valentines Day” party. The event featured speed dating and a poetry reading.

Presidential Intern

Presidential intern hopes to reinforce liberal arts foundation in curriculum

·

High expectations are the norm for IU alumnus Christian Hines. As a former Wells and Lilly Scholar, Hines spent his undergraduate years at IU studying history and establishing an individualized major in democratic theory and contemporary American citizenship. He graduated last spring. Hines was recently selected as the University’s third presidential intern. As he works with the president’s office, he will perform research testing the feasibility of a new program to advance the undergraduate experience at IU.

Column: The love song of a Bird

·

Andrew Bird's songs are beautifully layered using a loop pedal to create depth within each song. Often, his songs revolve around topics of history, science, curious mannerisms and, indirectly, love.
