Four IU faculty members receive teaching honor

On Monday, Glenn Gass joined IU professors Colin Allen, Olaf Sporns and Richard Wilk as they were honored as “Provost Professors” at an induction ceremony in the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center. Professor Stephen Watt also received the Tracy M. Sonneborn Award at the ceremony. Faculty members were recognized for achieving local, national and international distinctions in teaching and research.

Special education teacher helps students in, out of the classroom

As a second- through sixth-grade special education room, it’s one of only four in the district. Together, Kraig Bushey and his two assistant teachers, Anne Hyde and Stephanie Dalphin, work with students who can have any variation of disabilities: emotional disorders, ADHD, autism and cognitive disabilities are a few.

Senate passes smoking ban bill

Indiana lawmakers have moved closer to enacting a universal, statewide smoking ban. The Indiana Senate passed the bill 29-21 on Feb. 29, but not without first amending a list of exceptions.

Students give up vacation to help less fortunate

Two teams will go abroad for spring break. One is pairing with Outreach 360 in Nicaragua, and the other is pairing with Coprodeli USA in Peru. The other teams will stay in the United States. Both nonprofits deal with education.

Detective to investigate child abuse case

Lt. Bill Parker of the Bloomington Police Department said the father and mother of the boy met at a public place for a custody exchange. The mother allegedly told the father that her boyfriend had struck the child, Parker said.



Habitat for Humanity

Survey shows city has high rate of volunteers

Bloomington gives back, and at a higher rate than the Hoosier and national averages. On Feb. 21, the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network released its first member agency survey, which collected data about volunteerism in the community.
