Sophomore defender Tommy Meyer avoids Ohio State's Eric Shrigley's foot near the Hoosier goal Sunday at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Both teams remained scoreless in regulation, with the Buckeyes pulling out a 1-0 win in overtime.

The winning tradition began in 1982 with a coach, a forward and a national title.
Almost 30 years later, that winning tradition is still growing with the sons of the 1982 coach and forward.

Column: Undefeated start should worry conference foes

Since the Hoosiers left South Bend, they have been the team many envisioned at the beginning of the season. The slow start has since become a distant memory after their solid performance in the first seven games.

High school teammates reunite at IU

Several players on the men’s soccer team haven’t had to make the transition to IU’s campus and soccer program alone. Eleven of the 28 players on this year’s roster played at least part of their high school careers with someone else on the team.

Senior, freshman pick up where Bruin left off

After coming to a scoreless tie with Notre Dame, the No. 10 Hoosiers have won four games in a row and have scored 14 goals in that span. Half of those goals came from senior Alec Purdie and freshman Eriq Zavaleta.

Balance after Bruin for Men’s Soccer Team

After roughly half the men’s soccer team’s scoring was lost to the MLS when former Hoosier Will Bruin was drafted by the Houston Dynamo, one concern was, simply, who would score?

Purdie powers Hoosiers

Senior forward Alec Purdie scored three goals for the weekend, powering his team to wins against Bucknell and Denver for the tournament title.

Undefeated team to face former head coach Freitag

After two wins last weekend in the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic against St. Louis and Dayton, the No. 10-ranked men’s soccer team is back in action this weekend in South Bend for the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament. They will face Bucknell and Denver.

Offense necessary for soccer success

Surely the Hoosier soccer team will score goals, lots of them. But the void of 2010 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Will Bruin and the lack of offense thus far this season has left lingering questions about whether or not the 2011 Hoosiers will repeat as Big Ten Champions under second-year coach Todd Yeagley.

Men’s soccer travels to South Bend for opener

The No. 17 IU men’s soccer team will open their season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in South Bend with renewed expectations. They’ll take on No. 12 Notre Dame in the team’s first season opener on the road since 2006.

Despite Indiana-Akron ties, Yeagley doesn’t see a rivalry

Assistant coaches under famed former Indiana Coach Jerry Yeagley helped the Indiana men’s soccer program hoist the national championship trophy in both 2003 and 2004. Coaches Todd Yeagley and Caleb Porter returned only a few years after graduating to help their alma mater capture College Cup titles, which had eluded both men during their stints as leaders of the Hoosier soccer team.

Hoosiers find new scoring options in 5-2 win

Will Bruin no longer charged down the field with the ball at his feet. Rich Balchan no longer defended the backfield. Andy Adlard no longer flipped after the goals.
Three IU men’s soccer players from last season were gone, now playing on their respective Major League Soccer teams. However, that didn’t stop the post-Bruin squad from scoring five goals in a lopsided 5-2 win against Evansville, its first of two spring season home games on Jerry Yeagley Field.
