Get ready for 'Harry Potter'

I coached baseball this summer. I would arrive early before practice, sit in the dugout in my solitude and restlessly read "Harry Potter," a genuine page-turner. And when it was time for practice to begin and the boys and girls came running onto the field with their gloves and their bats, they had no intention of playing baseball. They wanted me to read them "Harry Potter."

Boycott crap TV -- watch Comedy Central

They tell me the new fall TV season is underway. I really wouldn't know. Network TV lost me a long time ago. Today, it seems, prime-time opportunities go to either has-beens who have flopped out of the movie business (Jim Belushi, Damon Wayans, Keifer Sutherland, Geena Davis, Charlie Sheen ... the list is endless and depressing) or hyperactive chefs.

Brotherhood generates this homemade music. It would sound different if one member were missing. That's the point: It's all or nothing. Six Alpha Phi Alpha members meet on a dance court almost every night to fine tune stepping, a traditional African American dance staged within black fraternities and sororities.

College students are notorious for being poor. So when one has limited funds, what is there to do for entertainment? Not to worry -- Bloomington has plenty to keep its students happy. The Indiana Memorial Union is a good place to start. The IMU offers many possibilities, says LaTasha Swanson, Union Board public relations director.
