Día de los Muertos celebrated at La Casa

Tall colorful candles, skeleton puppets and sugar skulls made up an altar at La Casa Latino Cultural Center to please the dead and the living. Latinos Unidos and Gamma Phi Omega sorority celebrated Día de los Muertos, also known as The Day of the Dead, Tuesday with food, fun and remembrance.

After becoming fed up with the regime's stifling of progressive academic thought, she fled first her teaching post, then the country.

Bloomington Cooking School sparks interest in community

It is his first mission as part of the Critical Incident Response Team, which uses most of the same training as a SWAT team. The man who owns the garage is heavily armed, and the night before, he took his wife hostage.

Lengthy road-trips loom for absent-minded absentee voters

Rather than attending classes or hurrying to fill out her absentee ballot in time for the election deadline, sophomore Jen Sherman spent Monday afternoon on I-70 driving home to Overland Park, Kan., in time to cast her vote for the presidential election. Sherman, an active Democrat, didn't mind traveling through rain and fog that cost her an extra two hours.

Today is Election Day, but not every student feels good about it. Some students said they believe one vote in Indiana doesn't make a difference in the national political scheme. Sophomore Ryan Whitt, a registered voter who served in the U.S. Army as a medic for one year in Iraq, said Indiana is pretty much decided as a Republican-sponsored state; his solution: national election reform.

Two IU scientists ranked among top U.S. AAAS fellows American Association for the Advancement of Science selected two IU scientists to add to the elite list of fellows in its Washington, D.C.-based society. Of the 308 selected this year, organic chemist David R. Williams and evolutionary biologist Curtis Lively bring Bloomington's total number of living AAAS fellows to 42 -- a number greater than that of any other Indiana institution.

Defense springs to action, halts Gopher attack

Rush defense has long been a sore spot for the IU football team this season as the team gave up an average of 213.1 yards per game on the ground, ranking them next to last in the Big Ten. The situation was especially foreboding coming into Saturday's Homecoming game against a Minnesota ground game that averaged 278.4 rushing yards per game.

Freshman adjusts to American game

I'm with stupid Elisha Sauers' article, "Stupid is as stupid votes" (Oct. 27) is another sad case of generalization. Your overwhelmingly partisan stance blinds you from seeing that the converse of your argument is probably also true: a large percentage of Kerry supporters don't know diddlysquat about Iraq. Let's face it: overall, many voters are ill informed. Let's also recognize that there are many highly intelligent, educated and informed voters on both sides.

Prosecutor asks that teenager be charged as adult in arson CROWN POINT, Ind. -- Lake County's prosecutor on Monday asked that a 17-year-old former student be charged as an adult for setting the fire that caused $2 million damage to a northwest Indiana high school, a spokeswoman said. The New Chicago boy was arrested Friday and was being held in Lake County's juvenile detention center, police said. He is accused of setting the fire at River Forest High School Oct. 21.
