Concert to raise funds for forests

Students have a rare opportunity to toast the trees Thursday night in lieu of their usual bar-hopping without a cause. Forest protection organizations like the Indiana Forest Alliance and Heartwood are coordinating the benefit to raise money and awareness regarding Indiana's forest issues, said Michael Forrester, a member of Heartwood and graduate student at IU's School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

Library to unveil new addition

Only silence and the clicking of keyboards will be heard in the new Information Commons 2 beginning today. The newest installment of the Information Commons at the Main Library will officially open for quiet individual study and work this afternoon with a reception and brief remarks by Dean of University Libraries Suzanne Thorin and Dean of Information Technology Brad Wheeler.

Students targeted in credit card fraud

IU senior Margo Ain frequents the bars during the weekend, often using her debit card to pay for drinks. Ain, who spends an average of $15 on a night out, was surprised when her monthly debit card statement didn't reflect her usual spending habits.

Junior Andrew Grover and sophomores Ilan Weismark and Scott Lipsky enjoy an opportunity many college students dream about. Every Saturday the sport communications majors host a WIUS radio show called "Three Guys who Love Talking Sports." And now that WIUS is switching from AM to FM, more people in the community will have the opportunity to listen to them.

Hoosiers lose to Valparaiso despite 12 hits in home game

The Valparaiso baseball team committed 39 errors on the year going into Tuesday's game against the Hoosiers. Unfortunately for IU, the Crusaders left Sembower Field still with 39. IU was defeated Tuesday 12-6 in their first home game in 19 days. IU coach Bob Morgan said a lack of games played recently and poor execution contributed to the Hoosiers' loss.

UConn's Villanueva declares for NBA draft after 2 years

STORRS, Conn. -- Two years ago, Charlie Villanueva thought he was ready for the NBA. Now, he says he's sure. UConn's 6-foot-11, 240-pound sophomore forward said Tuesday he will skip his final two years of college eligibility to enter the NBA draft.

Kappa, Teter battle it out at ITTs after last year's dominance by both teams

Two weeks before last year's photo finish in the women's Little 500, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Teter held a preview in the Individual Time Trials. Kappa placed four riders in the top 15 while Teter placed two, the top two spots. Today, five of those seven top finishers will return to the track for the 2005 ITTs. And just to make things a little more interesting, two heats will feature a rider from each team.

Soon after the IU Equestrian Club finished its meeting late Wednesday night, board members showed their battle wounds. The comparisons created quite the spectacle as pant legs were rolled up and bruises and abrasions shown from the last day's training. They were proud of their wounds, and some of the women were even still donning their riding boots.
