Hoosiers win 2; remain undefeated in Big Ten

In its first Big Ten home matches of the year, the No. 32 IU women’s tennis team did not disappoint. Defeating No. 43 Iowa in a close 4-3 match and No. 49 Minnesota 6-1, the Hoosiers held on to their Big Ten record.

Food pantry hires interns to help youth, garden

During the years, IU sophomore Julie Ponce has cultivated interests in gardening and working with children. Now, as an intern at Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard, she has found a way to combine both interests into one activity.

Pizza chain to give away ‘breadstix’

Today, Pizza Express is holding its Free Breadstix Day from 4 to 8 p.m. at all six Pizza Express locations. This year, however, instead of just giving away free breadsticks, Pizza Express is asking for cash donations to benefit the Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Pizza Express will match all the donations it receives.


“Snakehead Ed” and three audience volunteers hold Melvin, an Albino Burmese Python, while children ask questions Saturday afternoon at Wonderlab. The program, “Snakes Alive & More!”, sought to educate audience members about different snake species and dispell prevailing myths about snakes.

“Red touches yellow, kill a fellow. Red touches black, you’re OK, Jack,” said Snakehead Ed, otherwise known as Ed Ferrer, while holding a large snake and explaining how to tell a venomous snake from its nonvenomous counterparts.

Beatles sue to block release of 1962 Hamburg concert

MIAMI – Lawyers for the Beatles sued Friday to prevent the distribution of unreleased recordings reportedly made during Ringo Starr’s first performance with the group in 1962.

In the interest of inventing a better business suit, Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity will host a fashion show 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Grand Hall of the Neal-Marshall Black Culture Center.

Sigma Alpha Mu, Teter win Little 500 pole positions

Teter had the fastest time for the women, winning the pole position – the best starting position on race day – with an unofficial time of 2:39.45. Saturday night, customers of Rachael’s Café on Third Street experienced “The Babbling Banshee,” a new play by local director Russell McGee. This is the first production for McGee’s production company, Starrynight Productions.

Sigma Alpha Mu, Teter women take Little 500 poles

On what seemed like a wintry day, Little 500 riders heated up on the track for qualifications. Sigma Alpha Mu won the pole for the men’s race and Teter won the pole for the woman’s race.

Poor shooting, sloppy defense and foul problems hampered the Hoosiers in their first-round game of the NCAA Tournament. Arkansas crushed the IU men’s basketball team Friday night 86-72, as the Hoosiers’ journey for a national championship lasted all of two hours.  BLOG:  Basketblog

Team drops 9th game in last 11, loses both games in shortened invitational

The IU softball team could not sustain the momentum it gained after its 1-0 shutout win over Drake on Thursday as the Hoosiers (6-19) lost Friday afternoon to Louisville and the University of Illinois-Chicago. The Hoosiers were supposed to host the IU Classic this weekend, but because of weather, all of Saturday’s games were canceled.
