Grad students denied votes in first day of IUSA elections

About 10,000 student voices were missing from the first day of voting in this year’s IU Student Association elections. Many graduate students who tried to vote Tuesday were denied access to the computer voting system, receiving a message that said “you are not a registered voter.” SPECIAL COVERAGE:  IUSA Elections ELECTION:  Polls are open, vote here

IU hosts Purple Aces in final non-conference game

The IU softball team kicks off Big Ten conference play this week, but before it takes on top-team No. 6 Michigan (25-3) at 3 p.m. Friday at the IU Softball Field, the Hoosiers will host their last non-conference opponent, Evansville (14-7) at 4 p.m. today.

Judging a book by its cover

On March 21, the Indiana Daily Student ran an article about a student and janitor at IUPUI accused of harassing his black co-workers by reading an anti-Ku Klux Klan book called “Notre Dame vs. the Klan: How the Fighting Irish Defeated the Ku Klux Klan” in front of them. The book features two burning crosses on its cover. The man, Keith J. Sampson, claims he didn’t do anything besides read the book and that he is a very racially tolerant person who was just trying to learn what the book had to say.

Prominent U.S. foreign policy scholar to speak about Iraq War

The IU Department of History is hosting Andrew J. Bacevich, professor of international relations at Boston University, at 8 p.m. today in the Indiana Memorial Union’s Georgian Room. Bacevich will be speaking about U.S. foreign policy after the Iraq War. Bacevich is part of the annual McNutt lecture series hosted by IU’s history department.

IU-EMS to host mock drunk-driving scenario

Little 500 week is IU’s most popular time to party, and rather than just advising the community to not drink, IU-EMS, the University’s emergency medical team, is putting on “In An Instant,” an event that will showcase the dangers of drinking and driving, at 12 p.m. today.

‘Inappropriate’ product stirs local controversy

After buying a pack of fun straws from Wal-Mart for her 3-year-old daughter in February, Andrea Bailey of Kentucky said she found not just the usual hearts and squiggles. Two of the straws appeared to be phallic-shaped.
