Out with the old, in with the Nike

The candy-striped warmup pants. No last name on the jersey. No major contracts with sportswear companies. Men's basketball teams have always been focused around distinct traditions. After the firing of former coach Bob Knight, these traditions, which have always been embraced and bragged about by Hoosier fans, have started to disappear.

Team looks for league win

The men's swim team hasn't enjoyed its dual meet season much. Two wins in seven tries attest to that, as will a winless Big Ten campaign. But all could be mended 4 p.m. Saturday when the Hoosiers trek north for a battle in rival Purdue's 61-year-old Lambert Pool.

Road problems cured, for now

·

Well, we finally won a Big Ten road game. It's about time. Before Wednesday night's 70-67 victory at Ohio State, the Hoosiers had gone almost a year without a conference victory away from Assembly Hall.

Drag show to aid student groups

·

'Faust' opera to open at MAC

·

The opera "Faust" contains beautiful melodies, grandiose sets, sword fights and a pitched battle between good and evil.

The stupidity of modern man

·

I like quoting movies. Heck, I like quoting entertainment in general. I figure if I can rely on the funny quotes others have said on screen, then I can keep the amount of thinking I need to do to a minimum. I think the last original funny thing I said was this summer, and that might be it for my college career.

Morality not a political, public issue

·

\"How can Jesse Jackson preach morality after fathering a love child?" demanded an indignant writer in the Jan. 29 issue of Time. It's not a bad question, but I have a better one: How can the commercial media preach morality to Jackson, or to anyone else?
