CIA looking for recruits on campus

The Central Intelligence Agency is coming. Recruiters from the CIA will be on campus from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday for an information session at the Career Development Center, 625 N. Jordan Ave. "The CIA has been recruiting at IU for quite a few years, as they do at numerous other universities in the U.S.," said Patrick Donahue, director of the Career Development Center.

Bernitts pledge to fight Wells' lawsuit

After County Councilman Scott Wells filed a lawsuit Monday naming Herman "Bud" and Amy Bernitt as defendants, the Bernitts plan to do one thing: "fight." Wells's attorney, David Colman, filed the lawsuit on his behalf Monday. In September 2002, the Bernitts had reported a man they did not recognize, who was later identified as Wells, as "staggering" and "driving in a dangerous and erratic manner" to the Indiana State Police, according to the Wells suit.

IUSTV accepting ideas for shows

Two IU sophomores share a vision of creating and starring in their own TV show. Colin Jorgensen and Katie Calahan have been dreaming up the idea for a new show, but they don't have to wait years to break into showbiz. IU Student Television started broadcasting 24-hours-a-day last week. With all the air-time to fill, the station is accepting proposals for new show ideas year-round. Anyone with a show idea can submit a proposal and work toward its realization.

ACC celebrates moon festival An Asian moon festival is a holiday for members of a family and friends to get together and give thanks. The event, sponsored by the Asian Culture Center, celebrates the harvest moon, when the crops have been gathered and heavy work in the fields is over. The free event, will feature the cultures and cuisine of Korea, China, Japan and Vietnam and will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at Collins Living Learning Center Courtyard. Consumer confidence falls NEW YORK -- Continued job worries resulted in an unexpected decline in consumer confidence in September, the second consecutive monthly dip, a New York-based private research group said Tuesday. The Consumer Confidence Index fell to 96.8 from a revised reading of 98.7 in August, according to The Conference Board. Analysts had expected a reading of 99.5.

I'm not 'crazy for you'

Famed farce writer Ken Ludwig pulled off a wonderful adaptation of 1930s theater with his play "Crazy for You," which played Tuesday and Wednesday at the IU Auditorium. Much like the 1930s theater era he recreated, the heavy spectacle weighed down the air-light plot.

Women in Business fosters professional skills, camaraderie

Making business connections may not be a top priority in the minds of a majority of college students, but for members of IU's Women in Business club, networking and gaining practical experience for the corporate world are major objectives. "We have two purposes -- to develop women both professionally and personally," said senior and WIB President Stephanie Krause. The club also provides an opportunity for women to take on leadership roles in a field traditionally dominated by males.

Design veteran Geoffrey Beene dies of pneumonia at 77

NEW YORK -- Geoffrey Beene, the award-winning designer whose simple, classic styles for men and women put him at the forefront of American fashion, died Tuesday at 77. Beene died at his home of complications of pneumonia, according to Russell Nardozza, vice president of Geoffrey Beene Inc.

The IU women's soccer team wants revenge and they want it bad. Last year, Oakland University thumped IU 3-0. This time the Hoosiers are hoping to return the favor when they play host to Oakland tonight at 7 p.m. in what will be the first of a four-game home stand.

Cities in controversy about political signs

At least two Indiana cities have suspended local time limits on political yard signs in the face of lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of the ordinances, and a third may choose not to enforce a similar law of its own. Valparaiso agreed to suspend its ordinance that prohibits residents from posting political signs until 30 days before an election for the remainder of the election year, said City Attorney Dave Hollenback.

Early musicians to perform at Festival The annual Bloomington Early Music Festival will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church. The event will feature Ensemble Lipzodes, a five-member ensemble that specializes in the music of the 16th-century Guatemalan church. The ensemble consists of members from IU's Early Music Institute.
