BOSTON -- Overtime belongs to Maryland. So does the NCAA Championship.
Aces were wild on the softball field yesterday. Unfortunately for IU, the Hoosiers were not.
BOSTON -- NCAA president Myles Brand said behavior at a Duke men's lacrosse party last month was inappropriate, regardless of whether the alleged assault of an exotic dancer results in criminal charges.
For IU men's lacrosse midfielder Jason Bowman, his team's 12-8 win over the University of Pittsburgh was indicative of what the team is capable of -- but also of what is holding the squad back.
Cincinnati natives freshman John Mellencamp and sophomore Kevin Noschang will get a chance tonight to show their former youth coaches how they have developed at the collegiate level. The IU men's soccer team will play a double-header tonight with a split-squad versus IUPUI at 4:30 p.m., with the Cincinnati Kings of the United Soccer Leagues Second Division following at 7:30 p.m.
EVANSVILLE -- The IU baseball team continued its road trip last night with an 11-4 loss at the University of Evansville, marking its fifth loss in the first six games of an 11-game road stint.
I attended the annual reunion of the 73rd Bomb Wing in Memphis, Tenn. last weekend. The 73rd flew B-29s from Saipan to bomb Japan during World War II. I saw pictures and heard stories from the aging men of the "Greatest Generation." Many of their stories made me think about the discussion of the Iraq War and how it will be described in 60 years.
The future was looking bright for the Duke lacrosse team: The team has been ranked No. 2 in the nation and was expected to contend for another NCAA championship title this season. That is until recently, when it was suspended for the rest of the season following charges of gang rape.
I love Bloomington. It's the only city I know where you can find an elderly man in overalls wearing an NRA cap and a slew of obnoxious East Coast girls in the same restaurant.
Recently members of the IUPUI staff and faculty have voiced concerns regarding, what they perceive to be, lack of attention from IU President Adam Herbert. Some feel the Bloomington campus receives far too much attention and far too many resources from University administrators, which is a claim that is not entirely unfounded. It is true that the Bloomington campus does receive a disproportionate amount of attention relative to other campuses, but it does so for good reasons.
It's not often that I make common cause with the Graduate Employees Organization. Don't get me wrong, there are folks in the GEO who I know and I quite like -- it's just that our ideological differences tend to lead us to disagree on things. However, regarding the University's short-changing of graduate student health and dental insurance, we find ourselves on the same page. Furthermore, recent statements made by officials of the Graduate and Professional Students Organization -- grad students' official voice with the administration -- indicate that the GPSO is on this very page as well.
WASHINGTON -- Succumbing to scandal, former Majority Leader Tom DeLay said Tuesday he will resign from Congress in the face of a tough re-election race, closing out a career that blended unflinching conservatism with a bare-knuckled political style.
PARIS -- Demonstrators opposed to a new jobs law swarmed parts of downtown Paris Tuesday, throwing stones, tearing down street signs and ripping up park benches. Riot police, firing tear gas canisters and making several charges, carried away protesters in handcuffs. Police said at least 1 million people poured into the streets around the country in the latest protests against the law, which makes it easier to fire young workers. Organizers said 3 million people marched.
INDIANAPOLIS -- The National Weather Service confirmed that three tornadoes touched down in Indiana during Sunday's storms.
Getting involved in clubs and organizations -- both on and off campus -- can be an important part of the college experience. With classes, homework and everything else a student deals with, finding time for extra involvement can put a person's time management skills to work.
SOUTH BEND -- A rash of oven-door thefts might be linked to a recent case in which a woman bought what she thought was a flat-screen television, only to discover that the package held an old oven door, police said.
Approximately 25 miles outside of Bloomington lies the town of Story, Ind., a town that consists of hardly more than one building -- the Story Inn. A popular tourist attraction and Indiana's oldest bed and breakfast, the inn is the sole employer in this tiny Brown County town.
Bloomington Police Department officer Brandon Lopossa arrested junior Lauren Yoder on preliminary charges of public intoxication after she locked herself inside a marked squad car, said BPD Det. Sgt. David Drake, reading from the police report.
When 12:30 weekday classes end in Ballantine Hall, students lift their noses in the air, hoping to catch a whiff of pizza from the lobby. Often the smell of hot Papa John's pies permeates the first three floors of the academic building to devastating effect. Hungry students, professors and staff gather, ready to fork over cash to whichever student organization has laid a claim to the lobby that day.
