A strike at four building sites on campus slowed construction progress this week, but the walk off will not significantly delay the completion times for any of the projects, said University Architect Bob Meadows.

Senior Kyle Simcoe said he’s heard the story of an incoming freshman bringing his kayak to campus after hearing about the “mighty” Jordan River. In the story the student arrived at IU to find a not-so-mighty river. But on June 4, the river was raging.

Grant allows IU professor to catalog historical Liberian presidential photos

In 2005, Verlon Stone, the coordinator of the IU Liberian Collections Project, was in Liberia at the estate of the country’s longest-serving president, when he and some others pulled out some photos that were in “pretty bad shape” along with other papers from the statesman’s collection.

I didn’t shower today or yesterday, and I can’t remember if I showered the day before. Being expected to shower daily, especially in the summer, is probably my least favorite thing about being a human (other than foot cramps).

Keeping it local

Every time I pass the Panda Express they’re building on Kirkwood, I pause briefly and sigh. Sometimes I look for spare tools on the ground, hoping that there’s some handiwork I can do to speed its completion. We have one back where I live in Illinois, and I have fond high-school memories of dining on Kung Pao and Dr. Pepper. Someday, Bloomington will know my joy, but that moment isn’t coming quickly enough.

Water covered many low-lying areas in Bloomington and on campus Wednesday afternoon following a thunderstorm. On campus, Dunn Meadow was covered in water as the Jordan River overflowed its banks. Officials still are uncertain about the extent of the damage caused by Wednesday’s flash floods, which provoked power outages, flooded buildings, and temporarily closed of major roadways on and around campus.

Orientation prepares for incoming freshmen

Starting Tuesday, Orientation Programs will greet about 400 incoming freshman and introduce them to campus life. This year, more than 6,700 incoming freshman are enrolled in orienation and the University expects more.

Officials still are uncertain about the extent of the damage caused by Wednesday’s flash floods, which provoked power outages, flooded buildings, and temporarily closed of major roadways on and around campus. However, despite the surge in water, no injuries or deaths were reported in Bloomington or Monroe County, public safety officials said.
