Woman strangled outside of McDonalds

A 26-year-old female was strangled by her boyfriend outside McDonalds on the west side of Bloomington on August 8 at 1:16 a.m.

Cynthia Ashworth came to Bloomington from Colorado to receive a doctoral degree in medieval studies at IU. She taught entry-level English courses and had dreams of going back out West to teach once she completed her doctorate. She woke up one morning to discover that she could not get out of bed to go to her choir rehearsal.

IU ranks 15th party school in nation

In the Princeton Review’s “The Best 373 Colleges 2011 Edition,” which lists 62 categories with surveys of more than 122,000 students, IU placed 15th on the party list, as well as sixth for “lots of hard liquor,” 15th for “best college newspaper,” 17th for “lots of beer” and 20th for “students pack the stadiums.”

Lucas Oil snags 1st conference championship

The 115th season of Big Ten football will end with something many fans have been clamoring for: a conference championship game. The inaugural Big Ten Football Championship will also have importance for the Hoosiers. The December 2011 game will take place at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium  — essentially home turf.

The Cafe Sol food cart may be a little more than a month old, but the cafe’s spin on fast food has already brought much success. The cart is open from about midnight until around 4 a.m. — or until the food runs out — at the corner of Sixth and Walnut streets.

Many universities across the country are trying to increase the number of students who do choose to study abroad, and IU is no exception. During the 2007-08 school year, 2,052 students from IU-Bloomington chose to study abroad, ranking the University 11th nationally for study abroad programs.
