Bloomington under excessive heat advisory until 8 p.m. Friday

Most of central Indiana, including Monroe County and Bloomington, is under an excessive heat warning issued by the National Weather Service until 8 p.m. Friday. The National Weather service indicated that temperatures could reach record levels not reached since the 1930s.

Hesen falls short of Olympic berth

Indiana University graduate and 2008 NCAA Champion Ben Hesen came up just short of making the U.S. Olympic team, finishing fourth in the 100-meter backstroke finals Wednesday at the USA Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb.

Decision on Arizona immigration law could affect Indiana

In 2011, Gov. Mitch Daniels signed Senate Enrolled Act 590, allowing local law enforcement to detain individuals subject to federal immigration court removal orders. It would also prohibit the use of foreign consular identification cards as valid ID in the state.
