Fox House to close

Joseph Ramos lived in the Fox House for about six months last year. He described the building as "a gift from God." "It was a beautiful place," he said. "It was a good idea, but it was like a zoo." A recovery residence for people living with HIV and AIDS, the Fox House will be shut down by the Center of Behavioral Health, its property manager, when its five-year lease ends in December. The house is widely known to have suffered from financial and management woes since opening in 1996.

Keck, 19, resident of Eigenmann Hall, was arrested at Eigenmann for visiting a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia. • Nonstudent Timothy R. Maddox, 18, resident of Bloomington, was cited at Eigenmann Hall for possession of marijuana.Jan. 6 • Sophomore Andrew A. Gerbers, 22, resident of Briscoe Quad, was arrested at Briscoe and charged with public intoxication and resisting law enforcement.

2 men found dead during first day of Hilly Hundred

Tragedy crossed the path of the Hilly Hundred Saturday as two cyclists died during the first day of the tour. The first man who died was 77-year-old George Burgard of Indianapolis, as confirmed by his family. The cause of death thought to be a heart attack. The second man who passed away Saturday evening, according to the coroner, has been identified as James Corpus, 49, of Carmel. The cause of death was "probably cardiac arrhythmia," said Dave Toumey, Monroe County coroner.

Gosh, it's a beautiful day. Another year has come and gone and here I am smack-dab in the middle of my wonderful college career. While I'm repeating "o, as, a, amos, an" over and over in my head, thousands of students are preparing to be acknowledged on Saturday and enter the glorious world of IU Alumni license plates (or skipping the graduation part and having their diplomas snail-mailed).

Council votes to remedy west side traffic woes

Residents fed up with congested traffic on the west side of town might finally see some relief in the near future. The Bloomington City Council unanimously approved a preliminary resolution that would transfer $120,000 out of Westside Industries Fund to Monroe County to connect Profile Parkway with Wayne's Lane. Wayne's Lane is also expected to receive improvements, which officials hope will lower congestion near Curry Pike.

Business School to use new software, e-learning in class

Students in Professor Timothy Baldwin's Z302 class -- Managing and Behavior in Organization -- are being prepared for "corporate America" -- literally. His business students are among 1,000 who are using the same management training programs as companies like Pfizer, Sara Lee and Cisco, as well as government agencies like the Department of Justice.

The other night was the first time I have been without a roommate. He moved out, and I am still here taking summer classes. So what did I do? I watched a really bad movie about a masked man who sneaks into people's houses and slits their throats. It probably wasn't the best film to watch because of my newfound loneliness, and that turned out to be true when I kept the television on while I went to sleep so it wouldn't be too quiet.

Local Red Cross accepting blood, monetary gifts

Local Red Cross branches are accepting blood and monetary donations to aid relief efforts in New York, Washington, D.C and Pennsylvania. "This region is making 80,000 units of blood available," disaster services volunteer Tom Ross said. Available units -- which will be used as necessary by the national division of the American Red Cross -- are being made from reserve supplies.

Behrman suspect charged in other case

While a man named a suspect in the Jill Behrman case was charged with the attempted abduction of an Ellettsville woman, residents of Lampkins Ridge Road received a letter pertaining to the possibility of a reckless driver seen the same day of the cyclist's disappearance. Uriah J. Clouse was charged Friday in Monroe Circuit Court with attempted criminal confinement, a felony and a misdemeanor battery count. Prosecutors allege Clouse tried to abduct an Ellettsville woman who was 18 at the time of the June 13, 2000, attempt. The woman reported a man tried to pull her into his truck in an alley behind an Ellettsville convenience store. The woman managed to break free and run away, escaping with bruises and scrapes.

Hudson's vision finally unveiled

During the last 30 years, Herman Hudson's ideas and efforts have worked as a catalyst for the character that will infuse the Theatre/Neal-Marshall Education Center. Today, he will be handed an honorary doctorate of humane letters and witness the dedication of a building inspired by his vision.
