Sue this!

Since the inception of Napster, the Recording Industry Association of America, or RIAA, has been extremely active in efforts to protect the intellectual property of its members by attacking anyone and everyone who commits copyright infringement via Internet file sharing. However, it has not been particularly successful, which has led it to seek help. The RIAA now is asking universities to assist it in suing its own students.

Drink the tap!

·

In my relatively brief existence, I have both heard of and witnessed some horrifying, logic-defying fads. If you aren’t sure what I’m talking about, just go ask your parents to see their old pet rocks. To me, no fad has ever seemed as pointless as the water bottle craze that has taken the U.S. by storm in the last decade. In my hometown of Memphis, Tenn., during high school it became “cool” to walk the hallways flagrantly toting around a bottle of Fiji-brand water. This water was supposedly cleaner and fresher than our own tap water, simply because it came from an artesian well several continents away.

Get out of jail free

·

For the great number of convicted felons who have committed serious violations of the law in the state of Indiana, they can be almost certain that they will breathe free air again. And if they keep their heads down and wait on a literal “get out of jail free” card from the Indiana Parole Board, this will most likely occur sooner, rather than later.

Rock of ages?

·

First thing on the morning of Sept. 6, hundreds of people (at the very least), including myself, waited in a big, long queue winding through the foyer of the IU Auditorium. Why, you ask?

Hoosiers host Ball State on Saturday

·

During the preseason, the IU field hockey team defeated Ball State 5-3 in its lone scrimmage before regular season play. Despite the outcome, IU coach Amy Robertson wasn’t overly impressed.

Cross country teams begin season Saturday

·

Most students use Saturday to sleep late after a stressful week of class and homework. For the IU men’s and women’s cross country teams, Saturday means getting up for an early-morning run at the Indiana Invitational, held on the IU cross country course. The women’s run starts at 9 a.m., with IUPUI, Ball State and Michigan all in attendance.

Expectations raised for No. 30-ranked women's golf this season

·

Success means increased expectations. After starting last season ranked 107th in the Golf Coaches Association of America preseason ranks, IU went out and won its first tournament on the way to making its first appearance in the national championship since 1998. The Hoosiers start this season ranked No. 30, but IU coach Clint Wallman is unfazed by the expectations.

Believe: The start of a new beginning

·

Loyal fans have been patiently waiting since 1993 for the Hoosiers to turn it around. Waiting for their lovable losers to become, at the least, satisfactory winners. Last Saturday’s victory over Indiana State could be the start of the reversal that lifts the Hoosiers out of the football toilet and into a much cleaner, more respectable kind of bowl.
