WASHINGTON -- Sen. John Kerry vanquished his Dixie-bred rivals in Virginia and Tennessee on Tuesday, marching toward the Democratic nomination with a Southern sweep that extended his dominance to every region of the country.

IUSA proposes parking changes

IU Parking Operations' policy is drawing fire from the IU Student Association. IUSA recently drew up a working proposal to lessen penalties for first-time parking offenders. The reform would reduce parking tickets to $20-25 for a vehicle's first two infractions.

Holocaust survivor visits Bloomington

Eva Moses Kor recounts a scene of 10 to 20 sets of twins standing naked in an observation room, their limbs and body parts compared to each other. In a larger room, 20 to 30 more sets of twins could be found with rubber hoses tied around their arms to cut off circulation; blood was drawn to see how much a person could lose and still live.

Drug tester commits suicide

A 19-year old woman who had been taking part in a clinical trial of a new Eli Lilly and Co. drug was found dead of an apparent suicide in a Lilly research lab at University Hospital at the IU Medical School in Indianapolis.

Tough practices act as inspiration

Downstairs in Assembly Hall where the IU wrestling team practices, quotes fill the red and white walls. Meant for inspiration and motivation, one of them reads, "Unless You Have Prepared Yourself and Deserve to Emerge Victorious, Do Not Expect to Win or Be Disappointed When You Lose." Another quote on the wall spells out, "Work Develops Champions." They are especially relevant to this team, which battles through physically grinding practices and voluntary workouts to maintain their weight and endurance.

Indian lecture series begins today lecture series kicks off today

As a part of the Spring 2004 Lecture Series sponsored by the IU India Studies Program, a discussion of conflict resolution will be held at 6 p.m. today in Swain East 140. The lecture marks the beginning of the program's effort to bring important Indian issues to the IU community. Tim Callahan, assistant director of the India Studies Program, said the lecture series provides insight into world events.

Bush plan would increase freshman loans

President George W. Bush's 2005 budget proposal, released Feb. 2, will initiate a new distribution plan for Federal Stafford Loans. If implemented, the proposal would raise the amount a college freshman can borrow from the federal student loan program from $2,625 to $3,000.

Full Frontal Comedy club to raise money for a charitable cause

Full Frontal Comedy, a student improv troupe, will donate the proceeds from tomorrow's show to Habitat for Humanity. The event will take place at 9 p.m. in the School of Fine Arts, Room 015. Tickets are $4 for the general public and $2 for Habitat for Humanity members.

Cockburn shares music, politics

Bruce Cockburn treated his audience to a trip down memory lane with a few curves in it for spice. Cockburn, a musician who stands up for his political beliefs through his music, came to play in Bloomington for a crowd of loyal fans Monday night. Meandering on the Buskirk-Chumley stage, Cockburn played for more than two-and-a-half hours to an enthusiastic community of fans.

Kevin Burke is no ordinary comic. While he may begin with political and marriage jokes, he transforms himself into a "psychic comic," a talent which he presented to an audience of about 30 people Saturday evening in the Market area of the Indiana Memorial Union.
