Three hamas militants killed in Gaza strike

·

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip -- An Israeli helicopter strike killed three Hamas militants riding in a car Wednesday, the second such targeted attack in five days and a possible sign Israel is stepping up its campaign against militants ahead of a planned withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

Eisner rebuked by Disney board

·

Haitian rebels say they will disarm

·

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti -- Rebel leader Guy Philippe said Wednesday his forces would disarm as U.S. Marines fanned out in the capital -- rifles at the ready -- to help bring order amid Haiti's bloody uprising.

Hoosiers have clean-slate for Big Tens

·

New game, "new" season, same old opponents. The Hoosiers will have a chance to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years if they are able to defeat four Big Ten conference opponents, starting with the Wisconsin Badgers. IU will face Wisconsin in the opening game of the Big Ten Tournament at 3 p.m. today. The Hoosiers come into the game with an 11-16 overall record and 4-12 record in Big Ten contests. While the Hoosiers' anemic .250 winning percentage leaves a lot to be desired, their opponents have had an extremely similar run in the regular season, finishing with a 10-16 overall record and a identical 4-12 conference record. During the regular season, the Hoosiers traded victories with the Badgers, with Wisconsin taking the most recent contest 66-62.

Rocky Mountain rave

Once invisible, Colorado is now the center of the sports world. Twelve years ago, a baseball and hockey team were non-existent, while the brightly-colored rainbow basketball jerseys were the only thing notable about the Nuggets. But my, have times changed. A two-time Super Bowl Champion, a two-time Stanley Cup Champion, a half-decent baseball team, not to mention the biggest rape trial since Mike Tyson's, the biggest recruiting scandal and oh yeah, the biggest surprise in the NBA are all happening in Colorado. In spite of being a place where the total snow fall is usually the day's biggest news, the square state has been the bull's-eye in the circle of sports. Unfortunately, so much of the news in Colorado will be decided in court rooms and other off-field-venues that Court TV will have as much air-time as ESPN. Kobe Bryant has turned a once quiet and reserved Eagle County into the largest circus in the country, while numerous sexual assault allegations have a prestigious Colorado football program on the brink of disaster. But not all news has been bad. As of Wednesday night, the Avalanche own the second best record in the Western Conference, and the Nuggets are in serious playoff contention and have been all year.

Tenured coach earns associate coaching rank

·

Winning four Big Ten titles in 12 years as an IU tennis coach would be a highlight to any head coach's resume. Add to it, a two-time conference coach of the year honos for both men and women's programs, in addition to decades of collegiate tennis experience, and you've got a resume fit to send off for any head tennis coaching position in the country. But IU's newly named associate head coach, Ramiro Azcui, is proud to be just that -- and in doing so has been an integral part of continuing IU's lineage of successful squads.

Strickland, Moye, Leach lead team with career-high nights

·

Three IU players had career nights in three different categories as the Hoosiers pulled out their first home win in over a month Wednesday as they defeated Michigan, 61-56. Sophomore guard Marshall Strickland scored a career-high 21 points on 7-17 shooting, 5-10 behind the arc, to lead the Hoosiers (13-13, 7-8 Big Ten). Senior forward A.J. Moye had 15 rebounds, and senior center George Leach was a presence on the defensive end with seven blocks. "I thought Marshall Strickland was tremendous for their team," Michigan coach Tommy Amaker said. "They made eight threes, and one of our points of emphasis was trying to defend the three-point line, and it doesn't look like we did a good job looking at the percentage they shot."

Hoosier hiatus ends with 61-56 victory

·

It has been since the Purdue game Jan. 27. One month and five days is how long Hoosier fans had to wait for a win in Assembly Hall. Wednesday night they got it when IU (13-13, 7-8 Big Ten) beat Michigan (16-10, 7-8) 61-56. "We just wanted to get that winning feeling back," sophomore guard Marshall Strickland said. "After you lose a couple of games, everybody gets down. The mood kind of gets down. We just want to get the fans excited again, and get everybody excited about basketball, and we're not done yet."

'Dread' attainable as a liter-a-cola

·

A year or so ago, my friends and I were in the video store trying to decide what to rent. Somebody suggested "Super Troopers," and since I wasn't paying, I agreed. The previews looked more dumb than funny, so I wasn't expecting much when we turned it on. Needless to say, it quickly became one of my favorite comedies, both to watch and quote.

Far from the 'Time of Your Life'

·

Tropical nights, latin rythms, sweaty bodies -- sounds like the setup for one hot and spicy flick, right? Well, unfortunately, the makers of "Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights" managed to take this equation and turn it into a 90 minute snoozer. With its predecessor fresh in the minds of millions of '80s fanatics everywhere, this movie had a lot to live up to and fell violently short.

FEELIN' THE GROOVE

·

It would be difficult to be on the road almost non-stop, moving around from city to city playing in different clubs and venues every night in an attempt to make a name for yourself. The members of Addison Groove Project have come to a point where they can barely remember what city they're in or if they've ever been there before, but it's just what has to be done, says vocalist/guitarist/trumpeter Brendan McGinn.

'Schizophrenic' more like 'Nymphomaniac'

·

JC Chasez was diagnosed with the wrong disease. The former *NSYNC-er's recently-released solo debut, entitled Schizophrenic, should have hit stores with the more appropriate title of Nymphomaniac. There is an absurd amount of sexual innuendoes, most of which are downright funny considering JC used to run around wearing mouse-ears on "The Mickey Mouse Club" a decade ago.

'Fog' very clear and educational

·

The old story goes that when Robert S. McNamara, then the president of Ford Motor Company, was asked by newly elected President John F. Kennedy to join the Cabinet, McNamara was hesitant because he was unsure he had the credentials.

A PASSIONATE DEBATE

·

On Ash Wednesday, Mel Gibson released what may be the most controversial film in decades, "The Passion of the Christ," a blockbuster recounting the final 12 hours of Jesus' life and his ultimate death on the cross. Gibson, who directed and co-wrote the film, based the script largely on the Gospels of the New Testament.

Metal impresarios use 'Music as a Weapon'

·

Disturbed, Chevelle, Taproot and Unloco had so much fun on the Music as a Weapon II Tour they decided to put together a CD/DVD chronicling it. Both the tour and CD have the exact same music -- excepting a bonus video for Disturbed's "Liberate."

Another whodunnit, who cares

·

You are probably already familiar with the plotline of this film: cop gets promoted to Homicide division, bodies instantly start turning up, cop gets put on the case only to realize she knows all the victims, cop must fight her own demons and beat the odds to solve the case. That sums up the movie in a nice little package, only I may have made it sound better than it really was.

Gibson's 'Passion' a brutal gift of love

·

It's practically impossible for me to compress my range of reactions to Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ" into a 400 word review. Garnering a massive amount of media coverage, Gibson's controversial film has become the archetype of the cliché: "There's no such thing as bad publicity."

TAG, YOU'RE IT

·

Never underestimate children in a battlefield. That's the conclusion I've come to after playing 11-year-olds in laser tag and losing. No, not just losing -- being completely annihilated.

Western 'Missing' quite a lot

·

Old style Westerns are hard to come by, and Ron Howard tries desperately to deliver one which is politically correct enough for today's audiences.
