'Hoosier' execs skip meeting for IUSA tickets

·

With the IU Student Association elections just around the corner, the Hoosier and Red Hot tickets are busy spreading the word about their tickets and learning everything there is to know about IUSA. Yet, attendance at the "All-Candidate Meeting" Monday night was "disconcerting" to IUSA President Alex Shortle, because, while all four members of the Red Hot executive team were present, none from the Hoosier ticket attended.

Inside the album

·

As the first song on the new album, the slow guitar riffs give the feeling of a Switchfoot meets Goo Goo Dolls melody.

Claymation at its grandest

·

Now that the technology to quickly make animated movies has caught up with the intense desire to make them, each year there seem to be more and more animated theatrical releases.

'Pink Panther' strikes back, again

·

The magic of Peter Sellers' presence in the original "Pink Panther" films of the '60s, '70s and even '80s, was his remarkable appearance of dramatic ineptitude: he did not seem to know that he was acting in a comedy film.

I heart the Olympics

·

I love the Olympics. When my sister asked me to the opera Friday night, I hesitated to agree because the opening ceremonies in Torino began at 8 p.m., the same time as "Barber of Seville" at the Musical Arts Center. Thank God my six-year-old programmable VCR is still chugging along. I taped it. After fast-forwarding through all the Bob Costas banter and learning about the history of Italy and the Alps region (with some fairly odd displays), the 2006 Olympians marched into Stadio Olympico. And I asked myself (with the help of my boyfriend) why I love this so much. It dawned on me when Yoko Ono read her late husband's "Imagine" lyrics. The Olympics represent an ideal world order.

Very brave

·

I'm a heterosexual civilian student. I am no politician, I'm not in the army and I most certainly am not gay. However, I couldn't help but be intrigued by an article I saw on the Yahoo home page. The headline read: "Report: 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Cost $363M." The implications of the headline are that the Army's policy on homosexuals, known as "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," has cost the U.S. government $363 million. Confused as to how this was possible, I read on.

Barbie makeover

·

Valentine's Day has come and gone, but America's most famous couple remains broken up. It's been almost two years since the closely watched celebrity duo split, and many are hoping to see the 43-year romance rekindled. Barbie and Ken go together like movies and popcorn. But even moviegoers like a change of pace every once in a while and opt for a bag of Twizzlers instead. So no one was too surprised when Barbie split with Ken, flew to California and swapped love notes with an Australian boogie boarder named Blaine.
