Heinz angry over 'red zone' marketing plan

PITTSBURGH -- Ketchup giant H.J. Heinz Co. is seeing red over a smaller Indiana ketchup maker's use of the term "red zone." Heinz partners with the Pittsburgh Steelers and three other NFL teams to make charity donations whenever the home team gets past the opponent's 20-yard line -- the so-called red zone. Heinz claims Elwood, Ind.,-based Red Gold Inc.'s "Red Gold Red Zone" program is too similar to its "Heinz Red Zone" program. That program donates to charity when the Indianapolis Colts enter the red zone.

Students could pay thousands in late city parking fines

Some students don't pay for parking tickets they receive from the city of Bloomington because they think they won't be taken to court. They're wrong. "We do pursue unpaid tickets to the court level," Manager of Parking Enforcement for Bloomington Jack Davis said. Some students don't seem to realize this or don't care.

2 men admit to theft of manhole covers

LOWELL, Ind. -- A quick-acting town employee, who called a scrap yard immediately after 9,000 pounds of manhole covers were discovered missing, helped police apprehend two suspects. Frank Lovely, the Lowell Street Department superintendent, called police early on Jan. 19 after other workers informed him that someone had made off with the department's manhole covers.

It was almost midnight and exhaustion was starting to get to Jim Gaffigan. Following his show at the IU Auditorium Thursday night, Gaffigan held a meet-and-greet session for his fans. He spent more time talking to his fans than actually performing for them. After spending more than two hours shaking hands and talking, Gaffigan showed signs of being tired. For a guy who reiterates his laziness throughout his act it is surprising he lasted as long as he did.

IU can't hold off Michigan

Despite an early run, nine 3-point shots, a game-high 19 points from senior center Sarah McKay and four players scoring in double-digits, the IU women's basketball team was unable to snap its losing streak. The Hoosiers (13-9, 2-7 Big Ten) dropped a 65-63 contest against Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., Sunday. The game was IU's fifth straight loss.

No. 20 Hoosiers 'Kick-Off' season 3-1 at weekend tournament in Michigan

After months of grueling practice, the IU water polo season is finally under way. Playing four games in two days at the Michigan Kick-Off Tournament in Ann Arbor, Mich., the No. 20 Hoosiers finished the weekend 3-1. The Hoosiers split their games Saturday, routing UC-Santa Barbara 16-3 before falling to No. 13 Michigan 12-7. The Hoosiers capped off the weekend by going a perfect 2-0 Sunday, beating Colorado State 9-4 followed by a 7-5 victory against Marist.

'Business-like' approach helps Hoosiers to victory

It was all business for the IU women's tennis team Saturday when the Hoosiers improved to a flawless 6-0 record after defeating both the DePaul Blue Demons and the Butler Bulldogs at home. IU wasn't sure what it would see from the erratic Blue Demons, and no time had been spent toward scouting the underdog Butler squad. But coach Lin Loring's team demonstrated its professional approach to the game. Winning 5-2, the Hoosiers were prepared for the challenge DePaul presented, and Butler's element of surprise wasn't enough to prevent a 7-0 IU win.

Student makes pitch for 'white out'

In two "white outs" last season, the IU men's basketball team lost against two top-ranked teams -- the Duke Blue Devils and the Connecticut Huskies -- at Assembly Hall. That didn't stop IU sophomore Don Ueber from pushing Hoosier fans to turn Assembly Hall white when the No. 2 Wisconsin Badgers travel to Bloomington for Wednesday's game.

No. 58 Hoosier men look to upend No. 13 Notre Dame
