A sting leads to a planned tragedy

Few organizations find themselves quite in the eye of the storm like Planned Parenthood. While protests outside the clinic and threats against employees are standard fare, clinics nationwide will now have to contend with the latest development – undercover video sting operations. Bloomington’s Planned Parenthood learned this the hard way. In June, a 20-year-old UCLA student, Lila Rose, visited the Bloomington Planned Parenthood Clinic posing as a 13-year-old pregnant from consensual sex with a 31-year-old man. In an undercover video Rose took, Rose asked the nurse, now suspended, about having an abortion.

INDIANAPOLIS – For Indiana troops back home from Iraq, there are no more roadside bombs or insurgent gunfire. But the taut readiness that comes from being on guard against attacks remains and can be an obstacle in adapting to civilian life.

This Christmas I asked Santa for “Sex and the City.” If there was one thing Hollywood did right, it was making that movie. Since its opening weekend, the movie has made more than $415 million at the box office. Now, I’m begging for another sitcom gone big screen: “Friends.”

Inmates perform Shakespeare to help at-risk kids

CARLISLE, Ind. – Inmates at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility hope their performance of Shakespeare adaptations will help at-risk kids stay out of prison. Inmates in the Shakespeare in Shackles program recently adapted and performed scenes from “Romeo and Juliet” to highlight the violent society Romeo lived in and the consequences of his choices.

Police investigate Friday robbery

The Bloomington Police Department is investigating a night deposit robbery. BPD officers were dispatched at about 9:30 p.m. Friday to the Monroe Bank in the 2000 block of E. Buick Cadillac Blvd., said Sgt. Shane Rasche, reading from a police report.

Alumni Association chooses President’s award winners

The winners of the IU Alumni Association’s 2008 President’s award took unusual routes after their college days at IU were over.  The eight recipients received the award for their courageous volunteer efforts in the IU community as well as in their own communities.

IU, Purdue, IUPUI join together for energy research

IU loses in overtime against St. John's

IU coach Mike Freitag had little to say.After Saturday’s 3-2 elimination loss to St. John’s in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament, the Hoosiers headed home, one match short of the College Cup.

INDIANAPOLIS – After being trounced by No. 15 Wake Forest on Wednesday, IU faced another nationally ranked foe Saturday – No. 5 Gonzaga.The Hoosiers kept the game close throughout, but eventually succumbed to the Bulldogs, losing 70-54.
