Nationally touring Think Outside the Bomb presents at Boxcar Books

Nuclear disarmament has been an international issue for decades. President Barack Obama and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev made global headlines in April when they signed a treaty to reduce the number of both countries’ nuclear weapons by a third. But groups like the Think Outside the Bomb campaign, who presented an event Tuesday at Boxcar Books, say that’s not enough.

Wylie Museum at Wylie House exhibits glimpse into IU's history

One of Bloomington’s oldest structures, the Wylie House was built in 1835 at 307 E. Second St. by IU’s first president, Andrew Wylie. Home to Wylie, his wife and 10 of his 12 children, the house was passed on to Theophilus Wylie in 1859. The building is now owned by the University and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

STARTALK grants free IU Swahili program

For the first time in IU’s history 20 high school and middle school students will take on the African language of Swahili in a free four-week course that starts Monday.

Inner Chef educates creative new cooks

David Wade opened Inner Chef, a kitchen retail store, in August 2005. Wade co-owns the store with Stephen Chambers, his partner of 28 years. Chambers handles the financial aspect of Inner Chef but does not actually work in the store.

Possible biomass plant leaves Crawford County in conflict

Liberty Green Renewables, LLC, an Indiana-based company, made a proposal in January 2009 to build a 28-megawatt facility in Crawford, Ind., a rural community 64 miles south of Bloomington and a popular destination for canoe enthusiasts.However, partly because of hometown opposition, Liberty Green has yet to break ground.

The Blooming-Tunes 2010 Competition, Songs From the Heartland, is now open for songwriting submissions. This second annual competition is an opportunity for songwriters all over the country and beyond to showcase their musical talents.

Reward success, not reputation

The best way to keep up the momentum backing the baseball program would be a new stadium. I like the 59-year-old Sembower Field; don’t get me wrong. But I think we can do better than the 2,250 seating capacity, which fills up more often than one might think.

The IU women’s basketball team recently signed 5-foot-8 point guard Alisha Goodwin from Jefferson College. Goodwin previously played at Jefferson College, where she averaged 12.9 points a game. Jefferson College made it to the NJCAA Championships in the 2009-10 season but lost to the Gulf Coast Community College Commodores 83-61.
