1989-2008: The years of Hello Kitty, Hellogoodbye and the Hello Panda trade biscuit. Hello Panda is a delicious brand of Japanese shortbread cookies manufactured by the Meiji Seika corporation. Each bite-size snack is a sugar cookie filled with either sweet milk cream, smooth strawberry spread or decadent chocolate filling; the chocolate is the most common variety. According to an IU study, the smoking ban reduced student smoking during a two-year period and changed students’ attitudes toward smoking regulations.
In February 2007, a mandate by the IU Board of Trustees banned the use and sale of tobacco products on all eight IU campuses. The mandate took effect Jan. 1, 2008. Nearly four years since the policy was first initiated, Provost and Executive Vice President Karen Hanson said the University is still struggling to develop a way to enforce the mandate.
