INDIANAPOLIS -- After a sluggish start in the first half by both teams because of wet field conditions at Kuntz Stadium, the IU men's soccer team defeated Butler 2-0, scoring both goals in the second half. The Hoosiers move to 10-3-1 overall and Butler falls to 10-4-1 overall.

NEW YORK -- Boston blew away decades of defeat with four sweet swings. Believe it, New England, the Red Sox are in the World Series. And they got there with the most unbelievable comeback of all, shaming the New York Yankees, the "Evil Empire" to the south. David Ortiz, Johnny Damon and Derek Lowe made sure of that.

Cardinals survive, await Clemens in Game 7

ST. LOUIS -- Jim Edmonds finished what Albert Pujols started for the St. Louis Cardinals. Edmonds blasted a two-run homer in the 12th inning and the rejuvenated St. Louis Cardinals forced the NL championship series to Game 7, beating the Houston Astros 6-4 Wednesday to even the series at three games apiece. "This what it's all about, right here," Edmonds said.

Freshman helps Hoosiers to first Big Ten victory

The IU women's volleyball team did something Saturday evening that had eluded the squad for more than a month -- win. Last Friday night, the Hoosiers came close to putting all the pieces together, forcing conference rival Wisconsin to a fifth and decisive game, before falling to the Badgers, extending the Hoosiers' losing streak to 10 matches.

Freshman strikes twice to give IU overtime win

With a 2-1 overtime win against Miami University of Ohio, IU improved its record to 9-6 on the season. Nine victories is the most wins in a season for the Hoosiers in the five years the program has existed.

Coach likes Pacers facing tough opponents in preseason schedule

INDIANAPOLIS -- Minnesota is next up on the Indiana Pacers' preseason schedule that is filled with Western Conference powers, and that's just the way coach Rick Carlisle likes it. The Pacers play Memphis, Denver and Minnesota twice in the exhibition season. All three figure to be in the playoff hunt in the West. That type of competition is good for the team, Carlisle says, because it gives them a chance to hone their offensive and defensive execution against some of the very best.

The IU field hockey team is batting .500 in the first four games of its seven-game road trip. The Hoosiers continue traversing the Midwest with hopes of beginning the week with a win against Miami University (Ohio).

All Big-Ten guard out for year

The hopes of making the NCAA tournament for the Hoosier women's basketball team hit a major roadblock when senior guard/forward Jenny DeMuth tore her anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee and subsequently ended her 2004-05 season.

Basketball ticket pack expands to 12

Students will get to see all 12 men's basketball home games this season after all. The IU Athletic Ticket Office sent out an e-mail Saturday to students who purchased tickets alerting them that their season ticket package for men's basketball has been doubled to 12 games from the initial six.

Men's swim and dive beats Evansville The IU men's swimming and diving team felt they had something to prove after its close loss to Texas last week. Going into Friday's dual meet against the University of Evansville, IU Coach Ray Looze's team was ready to get its first 'W' in the win column.

Sophomore Jessica Gall and her teammates were looking to break their racing slump this past Saturday at the NCAA Pre-National meet. "We've had good workouts but we hadn't been running up to our potential," Gall said.

Team clinches berth in Big Ten tourney with draw

The IU women's soccer team wrapped up another tough weekend of Big Ten play Sunday after the Hoosiers suffered a 1-0 loss to Northwestern and drew with Illinois 1-1. IU lost its second consecutive conference game Friday afternoon when Northwestern scored in overtime to give the Wildcats a golden goal victory. Northwestern's Ashleigh Garmon scored off of a corner kick that sailed right into the IU penalty box with just three minutes left to play in the first overtime period.
