Men's swim and dive beats Evansville\nThe IU men's swimming and diving team felt they had something to prove after its close loss to Texas last week. Going into Friday's dual meet against the University of Evansville, IU Coach Ray Looze's team was ready to get its first 'W' in the win column. \nTo say the least, they did exactly that. \nIU moved to 1-1 in dual meets this year after a 160-87 victory over the Purple Aces of Evansville. The Hoosiers took 11 out of the 14 events in the dual meet. Freshman swimmer Nick Walkotten claimed two events for the Hoosiers in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 100-yard backstroke. \nAnother IU freshman, Ben Hesen, captured two event titles as well in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke. Senior David Winck and freshman Todd Patrick also captured two event titles respectively. The IU divers also took part in non-scoring events under meet rules Friday. \nThe Hoosiers never trailed in the dual meet as they took the first 11 events and never looked back. The next dual meet for the Hoosiers will take place Oct. 29 as the team travels to College Station, Texas, to take on Texas A&M.
10-match losing streak comes to end\nThe IU women's volleyball team beat Northwestern Saturday and snapped its losing streak of 10 matches.\nIt took all five games for the Hoosiers to finish off the Wildcats; 31-29, 22-30, 28-30, 30-27, 17-15.\nAfter losing two of the first three games against Northwestern, IU bounced back in the fourth game. With the score knotted at 26, the Hoosiers went on a 4-1 run to win the game.\nIn the decisive fifth game, IU jumped out to an early lead before the Wildcats came charging back. The Hoosiers were able to hold them off and won the game and the match, 17-15.\nThe win brings the Hoosiers' record to 7-12 overall, 1-7 in Big Ten play.\nAgainst the Wildcats, IU was led by senior Christina Archibald (22 kills), freshman Lauren Ditteon (career high 15 kills) and senior Katie Pollom (12 kills).\nFriday night, IU lost a heartbreaker to Wisconsin in five games; 33-31, 23-30, 16-30, 30-22, 9-15. Once again, seniors Archibald and Pollom led the Hoosiers. Both had 14 kills in the loss to the Badgers.\nAfter snapping their losing streak against Northwestern, the Hoosiers must now prepare to face Minnesota, the No. 3 ranked team in the nation, Friday and Iowa Saturday.
