Women's basketball falls to Ohio State 72-60

A storybook ending just wasn’t in the cards. Playing the night after a convincing victory over Iowa in the Big Ten tournament, the IU women’s basketball team fell to Ohio State 72-60, Friday night.

Hoosiers searching for their ‘attack mentality’

As her team prepares for an upcoming tournament, IU softball coach Stacey Phillips wants her players to establish a certain mind-set. She wants the Hoosiers to start playing with a purpose. “I want the team to come away with the mind-set we can attack and get after things,” Phillips said. “I don’t want our team to be tentative. I want them to be mean and kind of nasty. It’s a matter of playing with a purpose, not going through the motions.”

IU divers look to qualify for NCAA meet

At the Big Ten championships two weeks ago, the IU men’s diving squad struggled on the 1-meter board, failing to qualify anyone in the finals. However, with a renewed attention to detail and mental preparation, diving coach Jeff Huber believes the Hoosiers are ready to return to their winning ways at the NCAA Zone C Diving meet.

IU kicks off Big Ten season with Wisconsin

The IU women’s tennis team had a successful run through its nonconference schedule, tallying a 9-3 record and a No. 30 national ranking. But the Hoosiers’ season really begins Saturday at 10 a.m. at the IU Tennis Center when they face the Wisconsin Badgers to start Big Ten play.

Hoosiers sweep shortened road series

The IU club baseball team opened its season with a rain-shortened series sweep against the Clemson Tiger club team last weekend, winning two games Saturday.

IU junior Lance Stemler drives around two Michigan State defenders Saturday night at Michigan State. Stemler had 7 points against the Spartans in the 66-58 loss, just above his season average of 6.9 points per game. The Hoosiers play at Northwestern tonight in what is a crucial game to determine the final Big Ten standings for the Hoosiers.

Sampson attends son’s senior night at OU

Kelvin Sampson will see his first senior night as the Hoosiers’ coach Saturday when IU hosts Penn State, but the most important senior in Sampson’s life beat the Hoosiers to the punch. Oklahoma senior guard Kellen Sampson – Kelvin’s son – celebrated his senior night last night in Norman, Okla., with his father in attendance.

Judge upholds police reports against Colts Rhodes

INDIANAPOLIS – Affidavits by a police officer who arrested Indianapolis Colts running back Dominic Rhodes can be used in the drunken-driving case against him, a judge ruled Monday. Rhodes’ attorney, Jim Voyles, argued during a hearing that there were inconsistencies between the affidavit the officer wrote soon after arresting Rhodes on Feb. 20 and a supplemental report filed later.

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Whether or not the IU men’s basketball team believes in superstition, the number 13 proved to be unlucky for the Hoosiers on Saturday night. For the 13th straight time, the IU men’s basketball team lost at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Mich. This time, however, the Hoosiers led the Spartans by 13 points shortly after halftime, only to surrender 46 second-half points to Michigan State en route to a 66-58 defeat Saturday night.
