NCAA sanction decision will look at past actions

The NCAA Committee on Infractions will take into account a variety of factors, including whether there was a “pattern of behavior,” before it issues its final ruling on impermissible phone calls made by IU men’s basketball coach Kelvin Sampson and his staff.

IU routs Illinois twice over weekend

The undefeated IU ice hockey team opens Greater Midwest Hockey League play with a two-game home stand this weekend against its toughest opponent to date, the Davenport University Panthers.

IU hosts Purdue today at home on short week

The IU volleyball team will face in-state rival Purdue at 8 p.m. today in the University Gym. The Boilermakers (12-7, 5-3) come to Bloomington riding a three-game winning streak and standing in first place in the Big Ten in average digs per game. The rivalry will be the first mid-week matchup for the Hoosiers this season. With less time to prepare for Purdue, coach Sherry Dunbar said the team utilized what practice time they had.

No. 4 Notre Dame to host No. 12 IU

Rarely does a season get easier as it progresses, and that certainly is not the case for the IU men’s soccer team. After knocking off No. 9 Northwestern, the Hoosiers head north to South Bend to take on No. 4 Notre Dame on Wednesday in the final of three consecutive road games. Junior midfielder Brad Ring said he is looking forward to a good showing from the Hoosiers, despite some of the recent tough losses.

Students weigh in on Sampson’s NCAA violations

As word swept across campus and the country Monday that IU men’s basketball coach Kelvin Sampson was again sanctioned for impermissible phone calls, pundits and fans alike voiced a diverse array of opinions on the issue. IU students were no different, offering views ranging from support to forgiveness, and warning against repeating such violations again.

3 IU mens tennis players score impressive results at 2 separate events

It was a big weekend for three IU men’s tennis players. Junior Peter Antons and freshman Santiago Gruter were the Flight “A” doubles champions at the University of Louisville Invitational, while freshman Jai Yoon won the gold medal at the 88th National Sports Festival in Gwangju, Korea.

Men’s swimming and diving team gains victory against Missouri

The IU swimming and diving team wanted to start the season strong on the road against Missouri last Friday. The men did just that with a resounding 141-102 victory. The defending Big Ten champion women struggled, however, in a surprising 150-93 loss at the hands of the Tigers.

Young IU women's basketball team says energy, passion will be trademarks

IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack never stopped smiling Friday night as members of the IU women’s basketball team danced their way into the 2007-08 season, showing off their moves as each was introduced at Hoosier Hysteria. Even Legette-Jack gave the crowd something to cheer about as she took the floor before taking the microphone and firing up the crowd, asking for fans’ support this season.

Sampson sanctioned again for calls
