Board tackles athletic issues

Five primary issues were the topic of Terry Clapacs' last presentation as athletics director to the IU board of trustees Wednesday in Nashville, Ind. With less than a week left in his tenure as AD, Clapacs highlighted the first session of the trustees retreat early in the morning, wrapping up the state of the athletics department under his reign, the financial performance of the past year and taking a look at the concerns and major issues incoming athletics director Rick Greenspan will be facing when he takes office Wednesday.

IU students take to campaign trail

In the MTV generation, it is a common misconception that America's youth is apathetic to all things politics. This year, a high percentage of young people, including IU students and graduates, are oaring the Indiana gubernatorial candidates' ships.

Business program sees decline in participants

Senior Michael Gross will graduate in May 2006 with a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance under his belt. Gross is just one of 68 students who were selected to participate in the Kelley School of Business five-year MBA program.

Deputy Consul General for Israel to speak at IU today

Israeli Deputy Consul General at the Israeli Consulate General to the Midwest, Andy David will give a lecture today at 7 p.m. in the Indiana Memorial Union's Georgian Room. The lecture, which is open to the public, will encompass Israel's role in international cooperation, David's area of expertise.

Nebraska judge finds Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act unconstitutional

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A third federal judge ruled Wednesday that the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act is unconstitutional, saying it fails to include an exception when a woman's health is in danger. U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf in Lincoln, Neb., said Congress ignored the most experienced doctors in determining that the banned procedure would never be necessary.

Students create public relations club

Comfortable clothing from the '80s in style

A couple of years ago, an entrepreneur named Thurman Jack began to reminisce about comfortable T-shirts from the 1980s. "The T-shirts from the '80s were so soft," Jack said. "There aren't many shirts like that anymore." After throwing around some ideas, he decided to start his own business re-creating the T-shirts he missed so much.

Kelley study finds electronic brainstorming displeasing for employees

Various research studies have suggested electronic brainstorming will be a widely used business tactic of the future. According to a study published by Alan Dennis, the John T. Chambers Chair of Internet Systems and professor of information systems, and Bryan A. Reinicke, a doctoral student in information systems for the IU Kelley School of Business, however, electronic brainstorming has not displaced, or even joined, verbal brainstorming -- often and face-to-face -- as a widely accepted practice in many companies.

Onestart system poses problems for student groups

Students aren't the only ones who have been complaining about IU's switch from Insite to Onestart. Several campus groups are expecting a decline in sales or donations because of the new program. Ten organizations attempt to sell items to students after they have completed registration for classes on Onestart.

Jones leads on field, in classroom

Employment rates rise slightly WASHINGTON -- Employers stepped up hiring in August, expanding payrolls by 144,000 and lowering the unemployment rate marginally to 5.4 percent. While the figures didn't amount to a national job fair, they did hold the promise of stronger growth following the summer lull, analysts said.

But like many computer customers, he ended up buying floppies anyway. After all, they're cheap, and he still has a few of the 3.5-inch disks lying around.
