The dollar and the documentarian

·

I think it's safe to say that nowadays in America Michael Moore is a household name. From the early years of investigating questionable corporate behaviors, to the standing up for the little man era that was "The Awful Truth," and even an Academy Award-winning film on our nation's gun control policies, it was only a matter of time until Michael Moore found a truly opportunistic moment to lash out at the current presidency.

Ruining my life, anytime I want

·

On-Demand television will ruin my life. For those of you who are unfamiliar with On-Demand TV, it is a service provided by digital cable that allows one to watch TV shows and movies anytime one wants. Not only that, but it can be paused, rewound and so forth. Typically, the On-Demand service is attached to premium channels' packages, in my case HBO and Starz.

When tiny diamond-studded needles swim through the grooves of a 12-inch black plastic disc, the world of vinyl collectors rejoices.

Boys of Green Day grow up

·

From lip-biting masturbation and adolescent drug use, to a critical look at sociological and political issues, Green Day's lyrics have obviously evolved over the past decade, along with its style, sound, attitude and personality.

'Dance' if you got the time

·

A midlife crisis usually consists of learning to dance, right? OK, that might not be so common. What is common though is for a midlife male to have an attraction to a younger female, or so pop culture says. This 2004 adaptation of "Shall We Dance?" has a very 1930s feel to it with a new twist.

'This type of thinking' makes for good music

·

Chevelle is back with its second major record label release, This Type of Thinking Could Do Us In. It seems that this time around, Chevelle's type of thinking hasn't really changed all that much, and that's a good thing.

Harper shines a 'light'

·

Ben Harper is one of those beautiful 20th century musicians who throughout his career has been walking hand-in-hand with his influences -- it's always a battle to find the right proportions of Kravitz, Dylan, Motown or anyone else in the rhythms.

Love these DVDs, you will

·

"Star Wars" is finally here on DVD, and, frankly, if you don't know the plots of these movies, you must have been stuck under a rock on Tatooine for the last 27 years.

Costello delivers bipolar ride

·

With the inevitability of maturity, Elvis Costello has morphed from the quirky, pigeon-toed nerd of punk on My Aim Is True into its seasoned grandfather.

Movie will soon be 'forgotten'

·

Start with a very interesting and eerie hook: A mother who mourns the death of her 9-year-old son finds out that he didn't really die in a plane crash over a year ago; he never even existed.

Veto this lame knockoff film

·

If you are looking for a cookie-cutter version of Mandy Moore's flick "Chasing Liberty," then "First Daughter" starring Katie Holmes is the right film for you.

Pac-man has left the building

·

The 1980s were good to our generation. In addition to Saturday morning cartoons being put on the map, there was cool music, an explosion of film genres now referred to as slasher and '80s flicks, tight pants, TGIF, funny hair styles and arcades -- everywhere.

BURSTING the comedy BUBBLE

·

Sellout crowds are a thing normally reserved for boy bands, presidential visits and Star Wars premieres. But All Sorts of Trouble for the Boy in the Bubble, back again this year to keep people in stitches, will be performing at the Bloomington Playwrights Project every other Saturday for $5 a head. And don't plan on coming in the door at the last minute because the first show of the year last Saturday was completely packed.

Dozens report stolen permits

·

Sophomore Jenna Innis came out to her car Monday morning to find two tickets -- courtesy of IU Parking Operations -- on her car, though she was parked in a space allowed by her permit. She soon realized, like several other students across campus, the parking permit she expect to see in her front window was missing.

Libertarian finds new audience, bolsters campaign support

·

FRANKLIN, Ind. -- Following the first gubernatorial debate for the 2004 election between Republican candidate Mitch Daniels and Democratic Governor Joe Kernan, local politicos are abuzz over Libertarian candidate Kenn Gividen. "I think the one that gained the most from this debate was the Libertarian candidate," said IU College Republican President Angel Rivera. "This is the first time during the campaign he's gotten an audience."
