Varsity 8 earns best record ever with 7-0

Everything is coming up roses for the Hoosiers' young season so far. In tight races with George Washington University on an ungracious Potomac River, the IU women's rowing boat Varsity 8 set a school record of 7-0 and the Varsity 4 boat got off to 1-0 start on Saturday in the nation's capital.

2 IU athletes hospitalized after accident

Three people, including two IU athletes, were injured in a car accident when a dump truck collided with a sport utility vehicle at 2:30 p.m. Thursday on Indiana State Road 45. The accident involved Jamey Chapman, a sophomore forward on the women's basketball team, and James Bailey, a redshirt freshman wide receiver on the football team. Both are still receiving care at Bloomington Hospital.

'Masti' weekend attracts more than 400

Approximately 400 students from all over the Midwest traveled to IU for "Masti" weekend, an event that celebrates South Asian culture and means "fun" in Hindi. The Indian Student Association played host to Masti March 25-27.

Hoosiers claim 16th place and 24 All-Americans at NCAAs

The No. 13-ranked Hoosiers may have seemed to take a small step back with a 16th-place finish in the 2005 NCAA Championships. But ask the team and the members will tell you their finish in Minneapolis was certainly a small step forward toward a brighter future.

IU slips by ranked Purdue, Illinois

Like a broken record, the No. 43 Hoosiers again slipped past No. 61 Purdue and No. 51 Illinois in this weekend's 4-3 road wins. Last year, IU beat both teams the same way -- with 4-3 victories.

Illinois shows its mettle in getting to Final Four

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Deron Williams looked up at the scoreboard, frowned and shook his head. Down 15 with only four minutes to go, Illinois' season of triumph was about to slip away. All those victories, that near-perfect record, a path to the Final Four that seemed tailor-made for the Illini -- none of it would matter.

Hoosiers split double-header against Longwood Lancers

A trip that was supposed to feature three games in three days only featured one, due to a rain cancellation on Friday. Instead, IU split a doubleheader Saturday against Longwood University in Farmville, Va. The Hoosiers won the first game 10-4 and then lost the second 4-1, pushing their overall record to 13-5 this season.

Tale of 2 tandems

Three years ago, IU coach Mike Davis welcomed a pair of heralded backcourt recruits to Bloomington in Bracey Wright and Marshall Strickland. At the time, Davis declared that in a few seasons, the duo had the potential to progress into one of the best guard tandems in the nation.

Weather cripples Hoosier athletes competition

Thanks to Mother Nature, only a handful of IU's track and field athletes saw action this weekend. The IU squad split, sending a small contingent of distance runners to the Stanford Invitation and the rest to the Florida Relays in Gainesville, Fla.

Tuesday finish looms at PGA tour major

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. - And to think it used to take only two days to play 72 holes of championship golf. The Players Championship turned into a wet, controversial mess Sunday when yet another round of storms all but promised to extend the PGA Tour's most prestigious event into six days, most of that spent indoors.

Saturday had all the makings of a traditional Little 500 qualifications afternoon; the weather was gloomy and cool, crowds of fans sporadically showed up to Bill Armstrong Stadium to cheer on their favorite team and the usual suspects -- Alpha Tau Omega, Cutters and Phi Gamma Delta -- all finished in the top five.

Condom hunt explodes with educated fun

Jack and Jill went up the hill to have some so-called fun. Sophomore Jack forgot his hat. Junior Jill forgot her pill. And now they have a son. The first annual Campus Condom Hunt is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., April 2, in Ballantine Hall, Room 109. The CCH is sponsored by several student and Bloomington community groups, including the Student Global AIDS Campaign and the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance.

IU senior living 'model' college career

His career takes him all over the world. He has lived in Paris, Hamburg, Milan, Tokyo and New York City. He has been to every continent except Antarctica. His face graces fashion magazine covers and advertisements, most recently in the new Guess advertisement campaign with Paris Hilton. But on most days he is just another college student.

Easter egg hunt teaches survival skills

Peter the rabbit is lost in the woods, arms wrapped around a tree. So adventurous children picked up a map, and searched to see if he is in emergency need. The Bloomington Parks and Recreation's Annual Easter Egg Search and Rescue provided Hoosier children and guests the excitement and athleticism typical of an Easter egg hunt Saturday. The egg hide-and-find also taught children what to do if they become lost in the woods.

Small plane crashes on Purdue campus

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- The National Transportation and Safety Board was trying to determine what caused a small plane to crash in a wooded area near Purdue University's golf course, killing a man and woman, officials said.

Director will focus on career at Public Theater in talk

George C. Wolfe, one of the most influential directors in American theater, will focus on his career in a talk for IU students Tuesday. The Ralph L. Collins Memorial Lecture Series brings Wolfe to IU at 5 p.m. in the Ruth N. Halls Theatre. Afterward, Theatre & Drama Department Chair Jonathan Michaelsen will interview Wolfe in the Ruth N. Halls Theatre about his career, specifically the work he has done while at the Public Theater in Manhattan.

Pope unable to give Easter Sunday sermon this year
