Facebook gets design facelift

Just in time for the advent of the fall semester, everyone's favorite online yearbook and social network and has undergone a revamping. Thefacebook.com re-launched last week with a new layout and page design. The new look, intending to give the site a "less cluttered" look, according to a statement from the Web site's founder, Mark Zuckerberg, is in response to its skyrocketing popularity.

Bloomington residents arrested for vehicle theft

Friday, Aug. 26,2005 1:51 a.m.

Two men were found on campus with a vehicle containing stolen stereo equipment Thursday morning, according to an IU Police Department report. Bloomington residents Daniel Lane, 21, and Charles Starks, 23, were arrested for vehicle theft and possession of stolen items after IUPD officers found them in the Campus View Apartments parking lot near a car containing car stereo equipment and two checkbooks.

Top-level athletes not safe from deadly heart conditions

In March 1999, during a regional game between No. 1 ranked Bloomington High School South and No. 2 ranked Lawrence North High School, John Stewart took a seat on the bench feeling short of breath. Then his eyes rolled back in his head. A few short moments, the standout Indianapolis senior and Kentucky basketball recruit was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead from heart failure.

Midnight buses to take students to retailer

Odds, ends and no parking space may bring sophomore Lindsey Berry, a resident of Ashton Center, to Midnight Madness at Wal-Mart Friday night. "I really just need some things; I've talked to some people that went last year, and (they) said that stuff is really cheap," Berry said. "Another reason is I'm on a waitlist for parking spaces, and I usually have to find rides to go get stuff."

Hoosiers begin 2005 season with swing through West Coast

After a rocky 2004 season, the IU women's soccer team will begin anew this weekend in California. With 23 of 24 letter winners returning from last year's team, the Hoosiers kick off the season against Loyola Marymount University Friday evening and face No. 18 USC Sunday afternoon.

INDIANAPOLIS - James Jones has left the Indiana Pacers and completed a sign-and-trade deal with the Phoenix Suns Thursday, Suns president Bryan Colangelo said. Jones' new deal is for four years, with the fourth year at the player's option. Financial terms were not disclosed. The Suns sent the Pacers a second-round draft pick in 2008 in exchange for the 24-year-old Jones, who was a restricted free agent.

Oscar Wilde's "The Importance of Being Earnest" will make the final run of its month-long stay at Brown County Playhouse from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. through August 28. State Supreme Court OKs Baird execution

INDIANAPOLIS - Death-row inmate Arthur Baird II is competent to be executed as scheduled next week for killing his parents in 1985, the Indiana Supreme Court ruled Thursday. The state's high court ruled 3-2 against a stay of execution, saying evidence presented on Baird's behalf did not meet a test set out in a U.S. Supreme Court ruling. That ruling barred states from executing people who are insane, defined as being unaware of the punishment about to be received and the reason for that punishment.
